You aught to read the thread about trucks running down mountains in neutral and how fast they get going - will totally change your perception of air drag.

Not likely, I make semi regular trips up north and coming back over the grapevine I coast at 80 the last ~2-3 miles before Magic Mountain, and that's in a ~2,600lb car forget about a 10+ ton truck (fully loaded). I've also seen the runaway truck ramps, and the "trucks use low gear" signs. But could you post a link so I can read it.. and probably learn something.

As one who has done 85 often and frequently, hows the engine rpms at that speed? Dont think I would want to temp it over 5 grand. I try to limit to 75 tp keep it under 5 grand when taking i95 or i295.

^^ not to mention, that the limiter is actually at 118 not 115.

I was wondering about that - probably no need for one without more power to exceed the gearing. As for the downhill speed of coasting trucks I can't seem to find the posts but we were talking about air drag and I seem to remember that the trucks were reaching well into the triple digit speeds running down a mountain road . . . scary!

then why, when the car gets to 118, does the speed drop a few mph then go back up? seems like a speed limiter/governor to me.

hummmm sounds like I need to jack up my front end and with the tires off spin the rotors in 5th gear and see what limitis are reached.

from what I've hear, your wheels will go faster than your car. I keep hearing that xBs are drag limited (stock power) to ~110, so off the road, negating any wind, I guess you'll get up no higher than ~118

Toyota engineers that wrote the owners manual can't get more than 103 mph out of the car, and they have this 10-mile track to use:

A good Scion Lifer can do better than that on a public road any day!

I heard 106 was the wall by someone that reached it. Judging how fast I got up to 97 without flooring it I think mine would go a little faster - benefits of superior lubrication.
