Generally speaking I believe I was right, the xB is also abnormal in that the drag limit is *so* much lower than the gear limit. for instance, the xA will reach the fuel cut-out/speed governor, under stock power, so adding more power will not allow an xA to go any faster, only get to that top speed sooner.

dude, we are not talking about mechanical limits, we were talking about the GENERAL statement "power mods will not make a car faster"...

Stock I've hit 112 in my box. Now that it's boosted, 120 comes pretty quickly, and without any effort. Unfortunantly, 16 inch rims make it harder to do. Speedometer pegs out quicker, but the GReddy Informeter is dead on at just about any speed.

I stand behind that statement, power mods alone will not make (most) cars any faster*, only quicker**.

* Fast = speed
** Quick = acceleration

Power mod = intake, header(s), exhaust, internals, s/c, turbo, n2o (not taller wheels or trans. work)

so if a car is topping out at say 110 at 4k, bumping the hp up 50hp wont increase the top speed?...

'02 Silverado tops is governed to 100mph at 3-3.5k (redline ~6k) . You can dual charge it with n2o, headers and exhaust, the only thing you'll do is drop your 0-100 time (make it quicker), you will NOT increase the top speed (make it faster). **Unless you floor it all the way to 99.9 and let off, you might get over 100, but you can't power the car past 100.
Is this top speed while moving or on a dyno? Put an xB on a dyno, find out the top speed is ~118, then add whatever power mods you want (from my list above), put it back on the dyno and find out the top speed is still ~118.

Thank you and goodnight.

dude, for the last time, we are not talking about governors or mechanical limits, we are talking about your statement that you cannot increase the top speed of a car with power mods... how thick is your head

obviously if a car is governed at 100, it cannot go faster without a power tuner to remove the limiter, and if a car redlines in top gear at 100, it cannot go faster without gear ratios changing, but those are mechanical limits, you made the general statement that a car cannot increase its top speed with power mods... an un governed car and one that is toping out at say 100mph at 4k, redlines at 6k, you increase the hp, you will increase the top speed.

Yeah stop making blanket statements without the qualifiers. That's like saying I can't go faster than 25mph. . . . . because the cops will stop me for I go any faster. Bet you could coast in neutral down a steep hill and go faster than 118!

The mechanical limit IS the top speed. "how thick is your head"

and all the power mods in the world wouldn't make a difference if you're coasting.

in case you forgot your original post... nowhere in there do you mention mechanical limits. you only state that you cannot make a car faster with power mods...

and no, mechanical limits are not your top speed if you are drag limited...

That's true, and I'm sorry for not being clear in what I said. But most cars I've driven will reach their gear limit before their drag limit, IMO.

I guess what I'm saying is, we are in agreement, power mods *can* help you overcome drag limits.

If you haven't hit the top of your gearing, and aren't limited by a governor, you can always increase your top speed.
