Default Perrin intake noise vs. short ram & where to buy?

I had a cheapie short ram intake. It's junk ($35 on ebay, I new it would be) but got me by for a while. I just put the stock airbox back in last night and was quite surprised at how much noise the short ram made (I have exhaust too).

I'm looking into a Perrin intake because I have cut out the inner fenders and still want to be able to drive in the rain.

So is the Perrin as loud as a short ram? Are you generally happy with your purchase?

Cheapest place to purchase?

why are your inner fender wells cut if you don't mind me asking?

you mean this intake?

Perrin intake

looks like an interesting location for an intake.

Fender wells are cut to make the 20's fit with the drop. Not much, but enough that more water than I like is getting in there.

That's the intake. I also thought it was interesting, but it puts the filter in a much better place for my car.

cool

my only problem with a foam filter is that its super hard to get "as new" clean again. with foam their are little air pockets that pass through the filter wich still allows debris to clog up the filter and even bypass the filter all together. the more you drive it especially in a dusty area the more dirt gets in the filter and gets lodged into the foam filter.

the sound is very different from a K&N but it looks cool and people have a tendency to squeeze it so keep them away since i think the oils in hands act up the foam and deterioate it.

also watch out for rats and chipmunks. theyll eat foam like a 3 course meal

this was the filter i had on my Focus ZX3. it performed well and the heat shield worked awesome. and it never affected driveability and was cooler air intake temperatures then the engine temp.

good luck with it.

I have the perrin SRI, I love it. I bought mine from JSC speed. I paid around 200 for it and after considerable shopping around that is the going rate. JSC's service is excellent and I ordered mine on a monday and it was at my door on friday, shipped ground.

Can i get anyone to recommend a replacement for the Perrin foam filter. I'd prefer K&N so i just need the part number. The inside diameter of the foam filter is about 3 1/4" or about 82.5mm. Any smaller K&N that is pretty close to that will do. Since it's not make specific it's hard to know what to look for.
