Hopefully Someone can do a How-to in the tech section so morons like me have a baby proof play by play on how to get this thing on. From what I'm reading, it seems like everyone is very happy w/ it.
I would recommend spending the $10 it costs for 24 hours of access to the xB Service Manual at http://techinfo.toyota.com/. You can download lots of pdf files that might come in handy later on as well. The file that would come in handy here is called "Drive Belt Replacement" (section 14-5). It spells it all out.

From quickly reading through the section a few suggestions:

1. Use a small pipe or handle of sturdy tool to wedge the alternator forward. Its refereed to as an adjusting bar in the Manual. Just be careful not to insert whatever you are using between the oil control valve. You will need to use this "pipe" to wedge tension back to the belt when reinstalling as well.

2. There are two bolts to loosen for the power steering ("Vane Pump") as well. You might try the screwdriver method if it has worked for others, but it seems like this would be easier. Imagine that the vane pump pulley is a clock. The fist bolt is at around 12:30 or 1:00. The second bolt is accessible through the gaps in the pulley construction. If you were looking at the pulley head-on, imagine that the pattern that is visible is an "x". The bolt is accessible at 6:00 through the gap in the "x". You might need the adjusting bar to loosen and tighten this back up as well.

3. As for getting the damper off, I saw a damper puller at Pep Boys the other day. I don't think that its expensive. If the damper is spinning while you are trying to loosen the bolt, I would try using the same tool you used to adjust the tension in the belts to stop the pulley from turning. Hold the adjusting bar with one hand and torque wrench with the other. Air tools rule.

Personally I don't care, If I need to worry about warranty I can return it to OEM.
