Just finished installing my 9833 over the weekend with my brother. It wasn't too bad and I will post a bigger/longer bit with pics.
But, just wanted to mention, that I ran the entire deck off of the default plug (not connected directly to the battery for power) and I am using the deck's internal amp to power the rear speakers (CDT coaxials, 5 1/4") and everything seems fine. I have the rears playing quite a bit less than the fronts (the fronts are running off an amp) so it's not sucking much power but there is no dimming, no volume issues, no problem I can see.
Just an FYI.

I as well have a 9833 and I need some help. First off I have to say I am really good with any and all electronics, but this cd player is a _____ to figure out. What I need is help with setting the crossover and eq. Does the crossover even matter if I am going with stock speakers? And what exactly am I doing when I adjust the settings on the EQ. I feel really stupid when I try to get this thing to sound like I want it to, so I am just rollin with the rock EQ, but I know I can get it to sound better. Basically if anyone could explain the crossover and eq in plain english it would help. Or if you could just put the numbers into words it would be apprecaited. Help my dumb ___ out.
I think the crossover would be a GIANT help with factory speakers. Aftermarket speakers are going to have a much higher frequency range, and be able to handle more. With the high and low pass filters, you can filter out what the stock speakers don't need/can't handle.
DarkMan, have you gone to the Alpine site and used the iPERSONALIZE feature?
http://www.alpine-usa.com/
Look for the i-personalize link in the bottom right corner of the page.
I haven't done this yet, but I believe that it will walk you through various parts of the eq and xover settings and then you can save the config file locally to your computer, make a CD with your settings, and then upload it into your deck by using that CD and entering the menu system (dont have the manual with me). That should help you with your settings.

I just got the crazy idea to look up the stock HU DSP curves for the SSP stuff and then replicate the one I liked (Hear) using the online iPersonalize stuff. I kept it a little mild, and also used the crossover to axe anything below 31hz real steep (24db slope).
Wonder of wonders, it actually sounds pretty decent. All the crossover does for the stock system is let you roll off the bass on the stock speakers. I guess anything they can't really reproduce well will just suck amp power and overload the speakers.
It's so weird downloading stuff from the internet into my car stereo....

It needs a liittle tweaking
Those are some pretty advanced EQ things as far as I can tell, and the alpine can only do five bands. Basically, I figured that the stock HU sounded pretty okay since it was customized for the speakers. So I used that as a starting point ssince I have stock speakers still.
My one big complaint with the 9833 is that it's complicated. The big double-din or whatever size the stock unit has means you can easily futz stuff right from the front panel, whereas the alpine's got tiny buttons and you hve to wade around in the menus (not to mention the changer-based ipod interface
)
I haven't even thought about time correction yet! If anyone gets tcorr set up for their xB, let me know

I got a question out there for anyone who is using an Auxilary output to an MP3 or MD player...
Whenever I have the volume up in the 20's or higer i get a lot of white noise when changing songs, or if the song i am listening to gets real quite. Is this just something I live with, or can it be fixed?
