i didnt want to have to use a key at all in the whole push button start thing. I didnt want to cut the top off the key and put it in the ignition so that it could be turned to run, and i didnt want to have to insert the key to be able to use the push button start. basically i want to leave my key at home and use only the alarm remote to enter and start the car. What i can do when i get this set up is just that. The ignition key cylinder will be removed, the steeringwheel lock will be disabled, then the key cylinder will be replaced so that the car looks stock. then i take all the wires over to my push button start unit. i have a 3 position switch that goes from off-accessory-run. i wire that up so that just flip my switch up then i can push a button to activate the starter and when i let off the button the starter will stop and the car will be running.

I think this covers all the bases, does anyone see a flaw in my thinking here?

The transponder in the key is needed, there's another push button thread on this, but if you could find a way to boost the cars reciever, when you walk up with the key, it would disable that step, Altima'sam for example, do this and unlock when you walk up to them.

I have an XB, so there's no transponder in the key, i believe the only scion with the transponder is the TC. I'm glad i don't have to worry about a transponder, if you have a tc and need a way around it there are many aftermarket security systems with various ways around it.

On another note, does anyone have a wire diagram for the XB ignition harness? It would be a lot easier than trying to figure out what each wire does.

I had to do this guys... lol...

So, I've looked into the same thing for some time and if push-button is to 1949 for you, just go this route. There are many levels of entry into the future of "convenience/security" ;)

http://www.automobile-security.com/R...e18product.htm

and for the super paranoid ...

Just make sure if you go the cheap route that you don't let anyone cut your finger off. You know how much some are willing to do to get their own XB

Somebody will have to fish around inside and test the wires to get a diagram unless somebody has a copy of the service manual with schematics. I keep saying I will get around to playing with the ignition but every week other mods get prioritized over it. Im still excited to figure it out....

you could make a "screwdriver key" and keep that always in and voila. no problem.

Just to fuel the fire a little more. here's a picture of my whole ignition key assembly removed from the car. I can now get this push button start thing running. I plan on trying to figure out exactly what connections the ignition switch makes in each position (its on the very left of the picture). Once i have the switch connections figured out then all i have to do is design all the wiring and relay stuff and a panel to mount it all on. Best of all, i will have the steering wheel lock disabled and the ignition key cylinder in place, so that everything will look stock.

I also downloaded the wire diagrams included in the previous post (thanks very much) but i couldnt really figure out which wires i needed to connect and disconnect at what time to make everything work. so im stuck trying to figure out the ignition switch all by myself. oh well, its probably better this way.

Here's the picture

I installed the Honda S2000 engine start button in my TC were my cig. lighter use to be . to wire it i did have to use a relay and run it to 2 wires come from the ing. unlike the Honda you can just run to power ground and the ing wire, on the Tc i had to run to power, ground, and then the black ing wire and green ing wire it was weird and took a lot of guts and hope but i hit the button and it worked like a champ!! I have had it installed for about 6 months now and no problems at all, i know some of you were talking about the xB but it close and maybe works the same!

I really like the S2000 button gives it a nice OEM look and still the letters light up at night!

NOT A GREAT PIC! but all i got online right now!

if this was helpful i can get more info on it and maybe some more pics!

That S2000 button looks sweet, but is it just a button, or is it a button that has some sort of control module attached to it? In my design i have a switch that controls ACC and RUN, and then a button that works a start. If it is just a switch then are you able to leave your car in ACC mode, or do you just have on and off?

well the way i wired it up i put the key in just like normal put it in acc then push the button! many ppl would be like that dumb you can just turn the key, but after you use the button for a while you just use the button and it the looks of it you get a lot of kicks getting to push the button to start it... a lot of ppl really like it... plus if i wanted i could cut the wires from the ing and that way i still can turn it to acc but if i make the final turn it will do nothing unless i hit the button but i did not do that just incase somehting was to happen down the line and i just need to start it normal i can. you never know...

Ok i see, i guess i figure if im going to be cracking into all these wires and stuff then i might as well make the system exactly the way i want it. For me that means no key.

Tonight after work i pulled out the ignition switch and mapped out all the connections that were made during each step of the switches movement. Tomorrow i think i will sitdown and figure out how to wire up the switches and relays. I think i can accomplish everything with just 2 switches and 2 relays. Hopefully in the next week or so i will then be able to actually build this contraption and finally get it installed.

Default the ball is rollin

I mapped out the connections in the ignition switch a few weeks ago, yesterday i paid for my relays and they should be here shortly. All that is left for me is to fabricate some sort of housing for my starting stuff and disable the steering wheel lock. I hope to take care of all this very soon. I think i will be rolling with no keys in the next 2 weeks or so if i can get some work done while im not traveling. I'll post pictures of the install once i get this done. sorry for working so slow on this, i just want to make sure that i do it right.
