Hey guys. I just got an Amp from my friend, a Kicker ZR120. i'm not totally clear on exactly what it can handle. It's a multi channel amp, but is bridged. bridged,
it pumps out 120w. I just don't know how many ohms that is running at. i know its a n00bish question, but i wanna get a sub to go with it and don't want to screw it up.
Thanks for the patience, and if there is anything like this posted already, sorry I couldn't find it!
I'm thinking it's 4 ohms, but that is a relatively uneducated guess.

hey, you're in luck....
i have a zr-120 myself. according to the spec sheet i got . the 120w/rms is for a 4 ohm mono load. however kicker tends to underrate their amps by a significant amount. my zr-120 was pushing out just shyof 160 watts at a 4 ohm mono load. it's also 1 ohm mono stable. with my 10" kicker comp VR (dual 4 ohm voice coils) it was pushing out somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 watts.
if your friend still has the "birth certificate" you'd know all about your amp. enjoy that little powerhouse. mine will soon be feeding my front doors in my box.

so it can push out 300w @ 1 ohm? as in, run a dvc 2-ohm in parallel, and i can get 300w out of it?
that would be super sweet.
he doesn't have the birth certificate because his cousin gave it to him for free.

wait no, that would be more than 300w @ 1ohm, right? more in the neighborhood of 600? that 300w would be @ 2ohm, if i'm right.
what a wonderful way to start a day, knowing i just traded my old cell phone for a kickin amp!

be careful running the ZR amps at 2 ohms mono. Kicker reccomends 2.6 ohm mono(3 8ohm subs in parallel). I seen many of the ZR amps take a dump from people running 2 ohms mono and pounding the hell out of it. I had 2 ZR120's and 1 ZR240 running my system and it rocked. the ZR240 would pound all day with no problems.
with the Zr amps you can get away with a 2 ohm mono load on subwoofers due to a slight increase in impedence at the sub bass frequency levels. (around 100Hz or lower, i believe) i've run my comp vr in 2 ohm mono in my s-10 for 2 years pushing it hard nearly all the time. no problems here. i have the 80 Hz chips in the SWX plugged into the amp.
