Default What kind of sound setup would I need...

Hey guys. I've had my box for almost 2 months now, and I've been lurking around this site for just as long. I did use the search box to try to find the answer, but I couldn't, so..

I want to know what kind of system I'd need to get some decent sound out of hard rock/metal music. Then again, I want enough bass to rattle my rear view when I do play the occasional rap song.

I had a friend of mine get me my current system. He got me http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Jense...oductDetail.do this sub/box combo. The amp he bought turned out to be no good, so he gave me the amp out of his car which is a kicker amp. I'm not sure of the wattage, but he said it's a class D amp. Because of this, I have my bass set at a -5, or else it shorts out in the middle of songs. He said the amp is way too strong for my subs and that they could be blown if I push it too hard.

I plan on keeping the amp, but probably getting rid of the subs in exchange for something better. Any suggestions?

Edit: So I went to check the amp, and apparently that kid is full of ____. This http://radiomancaraudio.com/detail.a...DUCT_ID=KK1202 is the amp that I have.

First step? Get new friend. How many sets of terminals does your sub box have? I'm guessing, based on your friend's extensive knowledge of things car audio (extreme sarcasm) that he's got two 4 ohm channels wired in parallel to a bridged amp. Which, on that amp, is bad mojo. Check it out, get back to me and I'll help you more. Mark

My advice: Ditch it all. The Jensens are in a BP enclosure to hide the fact that they are distorting beyond belief. Feed them the true 400 watts they claim to handle and those woofers would die! The Kicker amp isn't any better.
What are you looking to spend, total? There are many things I could point you in the direction of, but several would run you a good deal of money.

Default system

get two 10" Kicker compVR's in a sealed box, facing down(front of subwoofer is not visible, magnet of woofer is pointing up), Get a 2 channel amp with at least 700 watts, you can get a performance teknique amp that wont put a hole in your pocket.
I recommend the ICBM-782. The 7XXX series amps from them are the best of performance teknique. Youll need at least 4 gauge wiring and for best results a capacitor and an EQ which will allow you to adjsut the bass when you want to listen to music with lots of bass, or music with no bass. Ill take pictures of my setup as soon as i can find my memory card.

I vote:

visit www.edesignaudio.com and get all your subs/amps/components there...

Here'd be a GREAT sounding setup that wouldn't break the bank:

All Elemental Designs:
ED 13Kv.2 sub $75
(2) ED Nine.2 amps $175 ea
eD(i)6500s components $250

that would be one BADASS sounding system!!! it'd be MEAN-CLEAN!!!

lol. I guess I abandoned my own thread. Mostly because I recently got fired from my job and couldn't afford anything, but my new job looks promising.

Anyways, mfenske, I have no idea about any of the questions you asked. I have 0 knowledge of car audio. lol. So I guess that's no help.

What I really want is a setup that'll give me the real deep bass that makes your guts vibrate, but something that's make my guitars sound just as guttural. Maybe something just to compliment the bass? I dunno.

I'll let you guys know how much I'm looking to spend once my money starts coming in again.

your going to need an EQ when it comes to switching from music with bass, to music with bass guitar. AS you know different songs have different frequencies of bass. Get a pair of kicker comp CVR if your on a budget. If not get the L7 or some alpine type R, or if money is no issue...definately the JL W7

Or substitute a set of the new 6000s v2 for $95. It would be a kick butt system for a great price!
