What Rton20s said.

This isn't the kind of thing you can do with your 136 piece tool set over the weekend.

I'm all about doing work yourself, but there's a point where DIY isn't feasible anymore. I wouldn't try to paint my car in my driveway, let alone hack up the doors.

the way i see it....
if you can do body work, you can do this no prob.
requires cutting, welding, painting, wires......

so if you think changin oil or headlights is hard, don't think about it...

i personally think this is very doable and not difficult.

Mad props to you Smartas.s. for being a leader and not a follower.

Nice. The only thing I dont like about the idea of suiced dorrs on an Xb is that now it looks even more like a Honda Element. Other than that it looks sick as hell.

as all else have said ... there aint no way in hell a kit will cut this project. You can use some premade parts, but you will never get around an enormous amount of fabricating, wiring, painting etc. From what I've worked with and seen so far, I am currently of the opinion the dual-stage hinge of the rear suicide doors of a Nissan Titan are the best thing going for an adaptation (they have to be shortened though - but that's "easy"). Buying hinges like that (or others) are as close to a "kit" as you are going to get, still going to take a huge amount of fabbing.

Still need to finish it to figure out total man horus so far is 12 hour for the one side and I need to do the latch and the clean up. I would have to say that it would cost the same as lambo door if not more. The car is going to need paint down as well afterwards. I have managed to keep the exterior clean but the entire door jam would need paint.

Also something I have to consider is the gas fill may need to be moved, I really dont think it does but I havent done that side yet.

Smarta**, please, PLEASE, do not even consider making a "kit." You could end yourself up in a very bad way.

Now before someone starts up the bandwagon so everyone can jump on and start screaming at me, let me explain.

Suicide doors are NOT a bolt on affair. Even if a kit was available, the fabrication included to install the kit would be extensive. Extensive enough that novices shouldn't even consider an installation. And for that matter, if you chose to have a custom shop install the kit for you, they could probably do their own custom fabrication and installation for the same price or less.

Selling things like hinge kits, strikers and latches is one thing. Selling vehicle specific installation kits is quite another. The last thing you want to do is have some kid borrow a crappy 110 mig and a torch to attempt their own installation. We would have back doors flying off of xBs on the freeway. Heck, maybe even falling off in parking lots.

In my opinion, if you are competent enough to install a suicide door "kit," you are competent enough to fabricate one of your own. Introducing a vehicle specific kit to the market is asking for nothing but trouble.
if it was easier and ceaper for a shop to custom do it theyd be all over. MANY shops have tried. a few cars have been ruined and lots of people have ended up wasting lots of money while accomplishing nothing!

People have obviously been going to the wrong custom shops then. And trust me, I know from experience there are plenty of bad ones up there in your area.

The doors on the xB weigh next to nothing compared to most vehicles. The vertical section of the door on the xB is short, but not that short. All it takes is proper reinforcement.

Like I said before, suicide doors are not something just anyone can handle. That includes a lot of the "custom" shops that have pop up out of no where. But anyone with good fabrication skills and a working knowledge of basic engineering can get it done and done right. I mean really. We're talking about hanging a couple of freaking doors. Not making the car do summersaults.

solid!

just wondering what hinges are you using, we're starting on my wife's XB also
here on Guam and we'll be using hinges from the 89-95 Chevy corvette since the
left and the right are the same and it can carry the weight of all the reinforcements
that is being done to it. but keep up the good work, plus nice pics.

Update was about the problems in doing the job so far (from what I can tell). Thanks for taking the time to fill us in on those things bro!

The project seems to be going really well! Continued luck!

yes you did ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ cut and past from page 1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~

3. **NEW** The window track towards the front of the door run up and down the entire door. Ther eis no possible way to use the stock one. Solution Bearclaw latches. This still doesnt solve the problem with the window track so this means I will have to install the latch into the b-pillar and the striker on the door. Well This should be fun. Parts ordered .... waitting arrival .
