AH! sorry! i was away ALL weekend for a drumline competition in Dayton Ohio for Regionals. no internet, no really anything all weekend. i logged in on sunday ya, but i had like NO sleep and a 5 hour bus ride along with a competition! i was too tired to check anything

SO

We went to the basement and dug up some insurance records that had the cars ID number on it, so we took it to the dealer and with that and they cut a new key, for free! actually, 2! so i got it open, all was well. THEN i found my keys in the bottom of a basket in like the corner of my house. god knows how they got there... my cat was sleeping on it so when i picked her up i saw em XD

SO no brick, no jimmy or anything special. just like an hour of time

so, JUST KEEP YOUR CAR ID NUMBER NEARBY SOMEWHERE!!!!
kk thanks for all the help though!

and yes, its technically my dads car, but im the only one that drives it. you all know how that insurance record goes. and i drive it everywhere TYVM! i dont commute to work or tour the country, but i do local driving a ton.

My dad works for me, and we both have 05's. He pulled up to work one morning, jumped out to unload something, and my nephew got out of the passenger seat and hit the door lock on accident. Locking it while running. So they called AAA, and in the mean time, just for sh*ts and giggles, I went out and put my key in the door, and it unlocked it as if it was made for it. (didn't use my fob cause aftermarket alarm). he then tried his in my door, wouldn't work.

I just love how such a simple problem yielded a 3 page thread.

That always happens when someone starts a topic then doesn't follow thru with the outcome till days later. We are left wondering WTF???

I've got an 06. I paid 7 bucks for the blank from the dealer and another five to have the key cut. I had to wait a few days because they had to order the blank.

I bought a remote on e-bay shipped for something like $16. I think the remote lists at the dealer for about $80, so I can see how the dealer quote got up to $125. Buy the remote if you need it elsewhere. There are plenty out there for much less if you shop around. They're easy to program too.

WHAAAT?? I got the blank AND the cutting at my local hardware store for around five bux! It's just a Toyota key, and not even the fancy kind my '06 Camry has (with the chip in it so the engine will crank and crank and never light up -- don't ask me how I know that ;^) so you don't have to go to the dealer for a blank.
