hypermiling RPM experiment
Finally cracked 40 - took a couple of tanks but hit 43.8mpg on the last tank!
Usual tricks: shifting around 2000, light on the gas and sticking to the speed limit. All this on a daily commute with lots of traffic lights.
Now I'm going to ease off the rpm restrictions and get back to enjoying the zippy car I bought! I will, however, try to stick with the speed limit driving and see where the mpg comes out in a tank or two. While it's a challenging exercise to stretch the mpg 30% beyond the EPA, it's not the way I want to drive day-to-day.
Just points out the capabilities of this fun little car!

Would the mileage improve if I used higher rpms? Why?
I have been cruising at 35 in 4th under 2000 rpms. Will the mpg increase if I downshift to 3rd and cruise at 35 using more rpms, or will it increase if I speed up to 40 in 4th?
Cruising at 35 in 4th seems so easy and economical that it's hard to believe that more rpms or more speed will increase the mpg.
NEW MPG GADGET! KIWI
It hooks up like a scangauge but has a graphical interface and rates your driving improvements, turns better driving into a game, kinda pricey though...
