Not necessarily... The older people get, the less aware they are of their surroundings. You don't know for sure that she knew exactly what she was doing.
Less aware they are of their surroundings? Then why should they be driving?
*looks around*
When did I say that they should be??? I think EVERYONE should have to retake the driving test at set intervals. Young and old alike.

DOOR DINGS!DOOR DINGS!
I would like to agree with the people that say a majority of door dings come from old people, not so many of them come from kids. how do i know this?
I deal with cars in parking lots as a job. Honestly its what i do. I work security for Grand Rapids (MI) Parking Services. i deal i deal with door dings daily, especially on the nice cars. and i must admit the older the people the more disregard they have for others cars. a majority of the time when i have to take a report for door dings it is caused by a elderly person usually 65 or older.
we leave notes on the silver hair cars and almost 80% of the time they deny it when the call you or stop into my office.
it does ____ me off. they say respect your elders i say To hell with them ( only careless ones) wow i was hoping that this forum would come up at some time. i needed to vent. any other questions on door dings i would love to vent more...

Of course, there are the opposites as well. The jerks that park in the Handicapped stalls because they are closer to the store ... or the jerks that park their cars across three parking stalls to ensure that nobody dings thier paint job.

I've had several cracked windshields from vehicles flicking rocks up into the air as they drive past me. Should I chase them down and threaten them? Chips, dings, scratches and cracks are part of the hazards of owning a vehicle.

I agree that people need to pay more attention and have respect for other peoples property but showing restraint and realizing that it isn't the end of the world goes a long way toward making life a whole lot easier on everyone.

Haha...I don't think anyone is. But there are people who get paid to drive people around. These people are called Bus Drivers, Taxi Driver's. In my home town there's a bus like a shuttle at the airports and it's specifically aimed at old people who can't drive themselves. I don't know if other areas have these services, but there are buses and taxis. And no one better say "Old people don't have money for buses/taxis" b/c that's BS. They have money to cruise around in a new(ish) Cadillac and pay for the gas that those boats guzzle. My Grandma still drives OK on the highway and in the smaller towns, but when she has to drive in the bigger areas or long drives, my Mom or my Aunt drives her. It's the never ending cycle. Parents take care of their kids and later on in life the tables turn.

Oh yeah...just to chime in on what George said on "Intentional vandalism is a justifiable response..." didn't you say in the Smoking Thread that you used to throw lit cigarette butts back into people's cars that threw them out? Is burning a person's interior not intentional vandalism?

In CA, where George lives, that is Arson, a Felony. And now peeps know why I feel George shouldn't be a mod on this site.

He intended to throw a lit cigarette back into a passenger compartment of a vehicle. Not only could it catch the vehicle on fire, Arson, but if someone gets killed during the course of the incident, that could also be Murder.

That's stupid. You could die anytime for any reason unknown. Everyone dies...so let's re-word that to include everyone.

'Die in a fire now? or die of natural causes in 30 years?'

Stupid...just stupid.

Wow, I used to think i lived in the civilized world... rethinking that...

Screaming and scaring an old lady didn't "help"her pay attention, it just made her more nervous and now she'll probably brake in front of you too.

Pushing on the door doesn't mean it was intentional, lack of awareness is far-reaching. they could've easily thought it was just extended, maybe?

Yeah, George the felon, why isn't the ATF investigating... How'd that slip through the supermod background check?

The key words there are "used to".

To put that back in context, I did qualify my statement in that thread:

Yep, I was young and dumb 20 years ago. I've grown up a bit since then. I hope that others do too.

I kinda feel sorry for some of those old folks. I don't want to just give them a 'pass' per say because they dinged my car. Accountability for ones actions should be the norm. But, how easy do you think it is to move around wearing a fully loaded Depends?

They literally use your car as a door stop!

One time I was sitting in my car at the mall opening a CD and all of the sudden a hear and feel a "WHHOOMPP!!" I swore that someone had ran into my car the impact was so great (my whole car rocked!). I look out my window and some old lady was getting out of her husbands caddy and she still had her door resting against my car and was using it as a brace to lift herself out of her car. She was PUSHING her door into my car!!

I jumped out and said "what the hell are you doing!!" I looked at my door and saw a dent and a crack in the paint where her door was resting. "You just dented my car! Why would you do that??" I asked. She got all scared looking and slinked back into her car and shut the door. Her husband said "what's the problem?" I pointed to the dent and crack in my car and he looked at it and said "that could have already been there!" I got really mad and opened up the old lady's door and gently laid it against my car. "Wow, whats the chance that your door lines up perfectly with the dent and you have blue paint on your door edge from my car?" He mumbled something about "damn kids" or something and got in his car and started to leave!! She went to pull her door shut and I started screaming at them insanely! He took off. I called the police and gave his plate #, but nothing ever came of it. I was told it wouldn't be worth it to take them to court. My word against theirs.

$250 fix!!
According to my wife who is a cop, says that the cops should have done a report and either wrote them for malicious destruction of property, vandalism or leaving the scene of an accident. With that much evidence the "your word against theirs doesn't float" the cop at the scene would have analized the evidence and put all the info in the report. Chances are after the report was filed the couples insurance would have fixed your car without even going to court. I would follow up on it if you are not happy with having to fix someone elses problem I say at least give their plate number to your insurance company and let them contact the old peoples insurance and collect the damages. Can't hurt to try
