Not Planning to Modify my xB.
There are a lot of self-contradicting mods...
People will spend a few hundred on exhaust, headers, intake - supposedly to increase speed and power.
They will then almost universally add big ___ wheels which more than cancel out the piddling gains that bolt-on mods give you on the 1.5.
I'm speaking mainly of performace mods here. Personally, I would not consider an armrest or radio a 'mod' unless you get to the point where the car needs to have an upgraded alternator to power the amps or drags its bumper because the box is so heavy.

Consider how much worse their power would be if they got those big wheels and didn't upgrade their I/H/E... I don't really view that as much of a contradiction.
I'm not a big fan of cosmetic upgrades (especially when they are not functional), but many people are. If the I/H/E is installed to bring the car back to stock performance or better then I would consider it understandable, since it'd be the only way to rock big wheels and not be all show and no go.
But yeah if performance was the main goal... I'd totally agree with you... those people are fools.

I passed this Honda this morning with a big ol' rear bumper replacement... just the rear. Blue car black rear bumper. The best part was that the front edges weren't secured properly, so not only was the wind catching the leading edges behind the wheels, blowing out at least a foot and acting like a drag chute, but it was creasing his bumper kit. Nice. I wonder what that adds to his 1/4 mile. I tried to get a pic but then some FUV's rolled up on me and I had to jam...
