Default Steering problem?

Steering problem reported on an Edmunds Townhall Scion forum. 2006 xB. Steering froze while turning and car hit a curb causing thousands of $$ of damage underneath. Owner complained of steering problem but dealer found none and called it driver error not covered by warranty. After getting car back, steering froze again but not causing an accident. Steering would work again after shaking steering wheel side to side. Owner returned car to dealer, and notified insurance company who called a CRASH team (??) to meet a Scion team to inspect the car. Insurance company says there are other reports across the country.
