Great job! Glad the new Nexus 7 fits, now I may have to upgrade my tablet for the better resolution (among the other features).

Thanks being a pro installer definitely helps. Its also running the snap dragon quad core processor, thing is lightning fast. I love it.

Next I am going to try running an externally powered usb hub, I read on a forum (xdanet I think) that you can run a 64gb flashdrive on it. If it works Ill post up and share what I used.

Thank you man it sounds awesome and cost me almost nothing thanks to my job & xmas. Still need to finish the box, I modded the underside of the passenger seat today and flush mounted the bass **** next to the traction button. Once thats done Ill get a final tune on it and it will be all done. I already have all the level setting done with my oscilliscope.

I did a little research on the otg cable with a 1 terabyte unit before, but loss interest in it because of all the cloud based options available. Check out xdadevelopers.com they should have some helpful advice.

Thats what I meant xdadev I dont know why I said net. I will look into it more soon. Im probably starting a new job and Ill be driving 2 hours a day for it vs the 45 min I drive now so Ill definitely want some better storage options. Its out in the middle of nowhere so I want it in the car not the cloud. A terabyte is waaay more than Ill want or need. I was thinking like 64gb giving me nearly 100gb.

Im going to try to convert my music library to lossless, mp3s just sound like garbage on this new setup. I can deal with it for now but thats in the lineup as well.

One year later and my Nexus 7 is still kicking. Only real issue I've had was that I blew both subs. They weren't ideal for the boxes I put them in, but hey they were free. Now I gotta get some shallow mount 10's and I'll be back in business.

While rooting and adding some kernels to my tablet this weekend I accidentally sat on it like an idiot and cracked the screen, luckily I had a 3yr accidental damage plan for it so I got it swapped out last night before work. Plus side is they gave me a LTE version on accident which costs a lot more but I got for the same price I paid for mine originally (score!).

I'll post some info on the mods I am runningif anyone is interested when I am finished.

Also to update in regards to PDAnet, it still works but only over direct usb and bluetooth. Verizon disabled the ability to hotspot through the method the app used.

Red, good work on getting the newer, updated nexus :D

Everytime I come back to this thread, I always feel so lazy because I have been wanting to put an ipad mini in my dash for the past year but haven't yet... lol

Foxfi works on the Samsung Note 3, but not the s5 and a few other phones. I have a Note 3 for this reason.

Verizon blocked it on the most recent android OS update to (I think) 4.4.2 and blocked wifi tethering. I got my 4g LTE activated, adding the tablet to my existing plan was only $10/mo, no more need to tether! I dropped a gig off my shared data plan (we had 4 and were only using .5 as we are on wifi 99% of the time) so no added cost to my bill to use it :D

I am running the TIMUR kernel which is awesome except I am having an issue with the shutdown, I have a y splitter OTG cable running a 64gb flash drive and I am using stickmount with SU access and when the kernel runs shutdown when I turn my key off stickmount is still running and keeps the tablet on, my plan is to write a task in tasker to auto run a app disable for stickmount when power is disconnected, if not I will have to figure something else out.

All in all I am super happy with it, especially not needing to deal with tethering anymore. Now I just need to get my dang sub box built! Still havent started it, I also need to retune my amp/stereo/tablet as its kind of outta whack right now.

If you are going to run an iPad mini I would highly suggest using the soundman mount, I had looked into the ipad mini when I was considering tablets for mine and decided not to for 2 reasons, 1 I hate iOS/apple products and 2 the sizing of it would require fabrication unlike the nexus which just fits in behind the panel easily.

Good to hear everything is working out for you. I also have Verizon and haven't had an issue so far with tethering to my unlimited package. Anyways I still want a newer tablet, but haven't heard of anything coming out with the Nexus name on it yet.

Its only with certain firmwares, I believe 4.4.2 is when they changed it. And if your on a manufacturer specific rom (samsung, motorola, etc) you may not see the change.

As far as new tablets theres some rumors circulating about the nexus 8, which will be larger screen, most likely wont fit the same as the 8 does in our dashes. It is rumored to be a collaboration between google and htc, not asus like ours are currently.

Update: 2 years later and still kicking. Sure some hiccups with the software updates, but overall it has served it's purpose and I'm still happy that I went this route.

For what its worth if you are still in search of a good sub for under the seat, I am running a single JL10TW3 in mine under the passenger seat and the thing hammers, the box is only about .4 cubic feet and its perfectly happy. The new JL10TW1 for the record preforms BEST in a .35 cubic foot box and the sub has a built in grill. I put those under the seat of another XB and they were FANTASTIC.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but THIS IS AWESOME !!!

I'm such an idiot !!! I should have mounted my amps under the back seat, too !!!
Right now they're mounted to my back seat, and it takes up a decent amount of space.
If I ever put the seat down, my 0 gauge CPA nearly pulls out of the amp ...
This is so frustrating !!! Your setup makes me very jealous.
Now ... I'm trying to think of a good place to relocate my double din touch screen.
I WANT A TABLET IN THERE!
