Default 08 XB electrical type buzzing from dash area @ 80mph +

Looking to see if anyone else has seen this. When driving at 80+ there is a electrical buzzing like noise coming from the instrument cluster area.

We just got this XB a few weeks ago and haven't really driven it that much.

This is repeatable every time if have tried. It actually seems to grow in intensity as the car goes faster.

I have a call into the dealer but I was hoping that someone else may have an idea of what this could be.

Thanks, TEEBOX

The fix is simple:

Stop driving at 80+ unless you're at a track

While driving around at 80mph in California must be frowned upon, here in Arizona we have some stretches of freeway that have 75mph speed limits so cruising around 80mph is not exacly pushing it. I don't think it is unreasonable for a 08 xb to not have a buzzer going off in the dash while doing that speed.

Thanks for such a helpful reply.

Excellent response... from TRDxD... who owns a xD.
Anyway, I haven't noticed any buzzer noises at 80 mph, even with the pedal to the floor. Perhaps theres some kind of wind noise or engine vibrating rattling a plastic piece?

Just wait until you get to 88mph.... then you're really in trouble.

Wait, that wasn't helpful - my bad.

Srsly though you may just want to take it in - especially considering that it is repeatable. That way you know they can't come back and be like "well we didn't notice anything..."

Yeah I am taking it in next week. My dealer is slammed with the recalls.
I pulled part of the dash off and the instrument cluster out and it still made the noise. Very electronic sounding as opposed to a piece of plastic rattling.

Hard to tell if it is coming from the engine compartment.

But it is repeatable which is a good thing I guess.

I am concerned because I only have 2k left on the factory warranty and not sure if the extened warranty will cover them searching for noises like this.

I must say I have been dissapointed with our Gen 2, but my Gen 1 is still running great.

Thanks

As long as your extended is the same bumper to bumper as the factory warranty and you haven't messed with anything in the area of the problem - you're fine. I had extended warranty on my tC and they covered everything. Was definitely worth the purchase.

^^^it really depends on the company the extended warranty is through also.

You don't need to take it in and have a tech look at it right away but get in there and have a service advisor go on a ride with you at least so you can get it noted in your service history so once your factory BTB warr expires, you have something to fall back on while you were in warr.

While I'm not totally sure this is the correct answer, but it sounds like air is getting forced through a small hole in the gap around the windshield. I had this happen on a truck I had not too long ago, and it was after the windshield was replaced. It can be very annoying, and in my situation it wasn't all the time. This would seem to be consistent with your problem being that you say it gets louder as you drive faster, as more air is being forced through the small hole. Try driving down a 2 lane road, at a rate of slower than 80 and see if an 18 wheeler coming at you creates enough wind to replicate the problem. Now that I think of it, I have had this happen with my box only a few times and at high rates of speed. I didn't think anything of it because of my prior experiences. I can't imagine there would be much for them to do except either replace the entire windshield or try and find the hole and seal it up. Either way it doesn't sound like fun. Good Luck.

I'm having this problem too but this happened when I replaced the factory wipers. I tried replacing two different sets and its still buzzing. The second set quiet down a little but it still buzz. It will not buzz when the wipers are wet. Any solution?

Do dealerships sell the exact wiper blade as the OEM which came with the car? I bought a set off trdsparks and the size is correct. But its not the same style.
