eBay TRD Knock-Off Cat-Back Exhaust INSTALLED w/ Pics
To answer the most relevant (twice asked yet unanswered) question in this thread, this ebay exhaust is mostly 2.25" ID like the oem exhaust. The oem exhaust starts at 2.5" ID where it meets the header then the s-pipe tapers down to 2.25" ID and remains 2.25" ID into the muffler. Most axle-backs are 2.5" ID, including TRD. If you're looking to add HP, don't expect much from this exhaust. They should have made it 2.5" ID and charged more.
I believe we greatly benefit from this system BECAUSE of the 2.25" ID. These motors are torque monsters and adding 2.5" ID would kill a lot of torque. Yes it would free up the flow of exhaust, but thats not too necessary unless your boosted. The 2.25" worked out perfect for my car.
This exhaust is probably the most affordable exhaust there is for this car right now and probably provides the most power now that I think about it. Then of course, there is custom exhaust, but most people don't want to spend the money (although, looking at Borla's pricing along with everyone else's exhaust rip offs, it might be cheaper doing some research and going custom).
As I stated in previous posts, $300 for Borla which is just a straight piece of pipe without the resonator or $175 for a complete s-pipe back exhaust?
I just sold this exhaust to a friend after driving with it for about a year. I am about to turn my car back into the dealership as my lease is almost up, and after taking this exhaust off, I can tell you . . . it wasn't made cheaply.
Took us 30 mins to install on his car.
Oh and NoLimitzBuilt, it lasted. I just read through the first few pages since its been over a year and I recall him saying
Just an FYI.
The saying goes you get what you pay for. I am hoping for everyones sake that this part lasts. It could. I am not knocking the part. But for someone to be able to sell something that cheap it tells you what the part is made of. You cant build a SS peice so cheap and not have to cut corners some where.
Disagree largely with you. When putting on this exhaust system, I felt immediately more power. Alot? No, some? Without a doubt.

Having said all that, if I had not boosted my XB I'd probably be running this exhaust. It's a great deal and although I firmly believe that a custom 2.5" exhaust would produce more hp and tq, it wouldn't be worth the extra cost. In short, Scion already took care of the low-mid range powerband so all we can do is add power in the upper rpm range or boost.
Thank you. I thought I should clarify the vagueness of my previous post. I also agree with you about 2.25" being a good exhaust size for the typical XB with the usual bolt-ons. Although a larger exhaust would most likely provide higher peak hp and tq numbers on a dyno, the overall benefit of a few more hp at high rpm would be minimal without raising the rev limit and adding more volumetric efficiency improvements than a CAI and header.
This reminds me of when I replaced the exhaust on my V-twin Vulcan 1500. The oem exhaust consisted of small primaries dumping into a resonator/merge collector and then into small dual pipes with baffles. It was very quiet. I replaced it with slip-on baffled drag pipes that eliminated the merge collector. It sounded much better. I also replaced the stock airbox with better flowing K&N filters on the carbs. Then I had it dynoed and it produced the same hp and tq as stock. The dyno guy told me I was lucky because most of the time bikes lost power with aftermarket exhaust systems. IMO the merge collector provided enough scavenging benefit to offset the extra restriction of the oem exhaust.
As if that wasn't bad enough, my $400 DG HardKrome drag pipes rusted so badly after only 2 years that I had to put my rust-free 11 year old oem pipes back on! This time I drilled out the baffle plates to make it sound a little better. I should have done that in the first place and saved $400...

I need to correct some misinformation I posted. I just installed the CXR 3" exhaust today and got a closer look at the oem exhaust. I thought the oem exhaust was 2.25" ID but it's not. The S-pipe starts off at 2.5" ID but tapers to 2.25" ID into the scuba tank. The scuba exit is only 2" ID and so is the pipe back to the axle-back. IMO the scuba tank is not as restrictive as most seem to think. It's a rather large hi-flow metallic substrate cat with a resonator. IMO the most restrictive part of the oem exhaust is the 2" pipe.
Based on this new info I believe the ebay 2.25" exhaust should add more power than I previously speculated. I also have new appreciation for the cat-back exhaust systems that replace that 2" mid-pipe with 2.5" (Tsudo, Strup, etc.).

This is a quality part. I don't know why you are saying it's not. I've had it for about 3 years without any problem. And it sounds fantastic. So while you pay for over priced exhaust systems, I'll be enjoying a great exhaust system for cheap. Enjoy.
Thanks, I will enjoy a part that is not a knock-off made by some idiot in his basement and sold on ebay for next to nothing, that imo, looks like ____ compared to the real quality parts out there. I guess I am just not used to owning such a cheap car where people are so readily willing to throw cheap parts at a vehicle. Goodnight and goodluck.............And don't take what I say too seriously, as I am a miserable bastard............

Awwww, sorry to offend anyone speaking the truth about things...........Granted I was drunk and all, but seriously, the part looks cheap imo and I would rather save and spend some money on something of greater quality. If you can't understand that, then too bad for you..............
