Epidemic Water Pump Problem!
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/ar.../t-171517.html
"Toyota has begun phasing in the new PINK coolant in place of the older
RED coolant. The new pink coolant is premixed with distilled water and
should not be diluted further. But I'd only use distilled water with
ANY coolant.
Do not use the traditional green silicated coolant in these cars. Asian
import pumps use rubber o-ring seals and not carbide seals in domestic
cars. Silicated coolant will wear out the rubber seals in a short
period time.
The pink coolant is meant for longer service life. But industry tests
have shown cooling systems exhibited high metal weight loss (corrosion)
using Toyota Pink. This is because toyota used only half of Dexcool's
two major components of sebacate and not the 2-ethylhexanoic acid.
Sebacate doesn't become effective with any newly installed components
(like a radiator or pump) until several thousand miles later. 2EHA is
fast acting, but it is a plasticizer that can cause problems with some
gasket materials.
So pick up some of the older red coolant (and distilled water) if you
can still find it."

I have heard some bad news about these pumps?? Anyone else heard? my mechanic was telling me it might have been a bad batch, so i duno. Atleast my matchbox (name of my car) is all good again

I saved like 130 bucks from buying it at a dealership
yay for http://toyotapartszone.com
If the Coolant was the major cause of the failure of our pumps then there would be failures across the entire lineup of the Toyota(Lexus,Scion) brand, not just a model or two.
Dont' believe everything you read on the internet. You know if you find the right website.......Daewoo makes the best cars in the world hands down. LoL

If it's out of warranty & you're paying for it, if you request the old parts, they have to give them to you. If it's a warranty replacement, manufacturers usually require that the defective part be returned before the dealership will be reimbursed for the warranty repair. Not sure if Toyota works like this, but Acura did.
Ditto for me at 26,500 miles.
I found it interesting after I left I noticed that the service document included this statement under the parts:
"00295-00103 - FIPG OIL PAN - WARRANTY"
They never mentioned anything about the oil pan. Does that mean they used the FIPG for the oil pan on the water pump seal or that they did the same thing to my oil pan that Pete did to his? It looks like they just used the FIPG.
Gonna call them tomorrow to confirm.

boXor, I've got no answer for your question, but haven't seen you on the boards for a while and just wanted to say welcome back. Glad to know there were no flames involved with the water pump replacement lol.
"FIPG OIL PAN" is just a description of the "Form In Place Gasket" that we use. It's designed for use on oil and coolant application. It's black in color.
The description sets it apart from the FIPG that is used for transmissions which is different, "FIPG TRANS," which is an orangish-red.
Dealer.....what.......Parts Guy......huh.......;)
Been here for 9 years.

Can anyone advise how long this process takes? Is this bring it in and pick up your vehicle the next morning? I pm'd a local Toyota service advisor on a different forum I visit and I'm waiting for a response back.
As long as you make sure they have the parts in stock & schedule the repair ahead of time, they should be able to do it in one day.
i can get water pumps done in an hour, depending on the application. xB's have that stupid mount in the way so it takes me like 1.5 hours for those.
FIPG is used to seal stuff instead of traditional metal gaskets. the oil pan FIPG is just the black stuff instead of the trans FIPG, which is like a red. i think HATEnFATE covered that ^^
factory trained technician ftw ;)
