I'm sure it's a factor of how busy your shop is and if they have the part more than anything else. The actual work shouldn't take more than an hour if that.

As long as you make sure they have the parts in stock & schedule the repair ahead of time, they should be able to do it in one day.
First, thanks for the kind words Cionide. Been really busy, but I'm glad i popped by and spotted this topic.

I had a slightly different time required. About 73 hours by my estimate.
"Say what!", you say?

Dropped by to get them to verify it was bad and set up an appointment on Friday at 1pm. They confirmed the leak and said they had the parts, did I just want to get it done now. Said it would take a couple hours. I said sure and had them give me a ride back to work.
After work, a co-worker gave me a ride back to the dealer. Just as we pulled in the drive, the service advisor called my cell and said, "umm we have a problem". It seems the tech had checked for the pump availability thinking it was the same one as the 2.4L Camry. Nope.
My car was already apart and pump not available until Monday.
I ended up driving a Prius home for the weekend.
Pump came in Monday about 10:30am and I picked it up about 2pm (about 73 hours later).

Hey stuff happens. They felt pretty bad and obviously the loaner was no charge. Other than the p/n oops, all went smoothly.

I'm pretty sure the Tc pump is the same as the Camry one isn't it?

Took mine to dealer today. They inspected completely for any leaks and found none. Said water pump was clean and had no signs of leakage (I did not have the spray on hood though from belt), and just topped my fluid for me.

So I will keep watching and see if fluid should drop anymore.

so how many gallons for a full flush, im going in today to get a free flush :D back to hot pink :D

appointment is at noon...want to make sure that they don't just dump whats visible so that only pink is in the reservoir...

also the flush goes like this:

drain, start car-let radiator turn on-turn off car-drain, fill reservoir, start car-let radiator turn on-turn off car-drain, and fill reservoir...

i believe thats it...it might be one more time in there with the on and off and drain...but i think thats it...so maybe one gallon is enough..hmm...

When the car is parked, perhaps overnight, should the coolant level be on the "LOW" or "FULL" line?

It should be at the full mark when cold.

Time to go to Toyota to buy some Super Long Life! Should they have it in stock or do they need to be special ordered? Or should I get it online instead?

Nevermind, I called the dealers around here, one was asking for $16, another one was asking for $22... what's with the price difference?

They charge whatever they want. I bought a gallon of it about a month ago for $19 from a dealer near my job.

mine has the stripe on the hood insulation aswell and down maybe a quart of coolant. my xb only has 20,000 miles on it, but i noticed it before that.

i'll change it when the leak gets worse or it starts making noise.

Why not just take it to the dealer and get it replaced? Just curious.

On a side note, I don't understand why so many people are deathly afraid of dealers, especially for warranty type work. If they screw something up, they have to fix it, regardless. Unless you have a very shady dealer and have no other dealers nearby, I don't understand why you wouldn't!

Unless you have had to deal with the dealers telling you "it's normal" or "we could not replicate the problem (and they can't explain to you what they tried to replicate it)" you won't understand why people hate to get work done at a dealer.

I've had my fair share of bad experiences (foriegn and domestic) and avoid dealers at all cost because 9 out 10 dealers suck. I'm still holding out on the pump thing until it becomes a really serious issue. I'm going on two weeks without having to top off the fluid but maybe its just a fluke...

I also have the A-pillar creak but I'm not going to take it in even though there is a TSB for it. Having the panels scratched and misaligned is almost a guarantee. I'll live with the noise (which is rarely because I always have the radio blasting lol).

If your pump is leaking...don't wait to get it replaced. Dont' forget that your cooling system is pressurized every time your car hits operating temp. All it will take is one more time to have a total failure. If you don't have to pay, get it done before it become a bigger problem. What would you rather the dealer replace, a water pump, or a whole engine? I'm thinking one offers a little more opportunity for mistakes then the other.

Sounds like you were quoted for two different types of coolant.....
I've got $17.30 for Super Long Life and $22.74 for Long Life.

I have been in that situation before with my dad's car (Toyota Prius). But my dealer waived the cost of wasting the technicians time and also did service beyond what was expected. Maybe my dealer is just better then most, who knows. Its clean, professional and the work is always perfect. I trust them more then any other shop with my car, that is for sure. And for parts, they usually will price match so that is good...

I am with you on the creaking issue. Mine is pretty bad, but only if radio is off do I hear it. I think of it as the car's personality... Its an econobox, not a Lexus. I spend less then 20k on it, I won't expect perfection. If it does not jeopardize my safety or is a serious problem, it's best left alone, usually. Not to mention, the people who did have the TSB done usually still have creaking, so why bother
