Default MARCH UPDATE - NO DELAY for Toyota/Subaru FR - onsale 2011

New NEWS guys! The reported delay of the famed 'Toyobaru' till 2012 or later has been denied by both Toyota and Subaru spokespersons. According to Edmunds Insideline:

If you've recently read a story or two about the delay, or even the demise, of the compact sport coupe that Toyota and Subaru are jointly working on, don't believe it. That's the message from knowledgeable PR sources in Japan, who tell Inside Line that this intriguing sports car program is still very much on track.

Japan's influential Nikkei business newspaper ran a headline story in December, claiming that in the wake of the severe market meltdown, the Toyobaru was being postponed...Toyota and Subaru had decided to delay the start of production, the paper claimed, with production now "likely to be postponed to 2012 or later."

Both representatives from Toyota and Subaru's press offices in Tokyo have recently denied the story. "The project is still on track, according to the info I have on hand," says a Toyota spokesperson.
More info on the story can be found HERE.

Sweeet....personally I hope they go Symetrical AWD than RWD. Judging by how things are gong, the engine that will be used will probably be the new 2.5 Dual VVT-i, for the Scion models. It would be nicer if they went 2.7L Dual VVT-i. Eitherway; If propperly tuned by Toyota, they could get close to, if not over 200hp Naturally Aspirated easy, and maintain their grip on economy. 6SP manual/5SP Automatic tip tronic sport shift would be nice to have, too ;)

production calls for scooby boxer 4. maybe to be just under the genesis coupe?

WRX motor in a tC sized coupe...or even motor swapping a stI motor in there AND rwd??? someone hand me a towel...

It would be awesome if they create a Toyobaru emblem. we should make a thread on the design of an emblem. hahaha.
