hey so i was thinkin about gettin new header for my scion...does it void the warentee? what about installing my own alarm wit remote start n stuff? lowering it? getting rims? what all stuff voids it? are there set rules or does it vary from dealership to dealership?

 

my dealer told me that the best thing to do would be talk to the head of maint. dept. if you question any install before you buy/install parts. this is b/c they can and in the past have voided warranties b/c of aftermarket parts. SEMA has info on aftermarket parts on new vehicles on their website. but ultimately it is up to the dealership whether or not the warranty still stands.

 

i can't remember where the thread is , but there is a law posted somewhere on here that states the dealer can NOT void your warrenty because after market products have been installed,

any one else see this too?

 

i saw this, but the dealer can void a warranty if the aftermarket part that is installed can be linked to anything (is covered by warranty) that is faulty. but the way around this is that they have to prove without a doubt that it was caused by a/m part.

 

i think the only way to stay within your warranty while adding stuff to your car is getting it installed by the dealer. forget that.... thats why i didnt get the extended warranty. i figure they're making cars well enough now that i dont need a warranty anyway.

 

True... True, engines are very good these days, and as long as you do not add a turbo AND a 100 shot of nitrous you should be good.

 

The law i believe is called McCullan? I know it starts with a M At any rate, it states that in order for a manufactor to void a warrenty, they must prove in a court of law that the part was a direct effect of installing the aftermarket part. I.E. If you install and intake, and the paint starts to fade/flake off, this is not a direct result of intake. HOWEVER, if you install a chip, and toast the engine, guess who will be paying out of their own pocket to have the engine replaced ..... you. Even though it may not have cause the problem with the motor, are you really going to go to court and get tangled up in all the legal crap of scheduling and re-scheduling, cost, and loss of work over a 3K engine, not likely.

In a nut shell, be smart, be safe, and be aware.

*You will void your warranty when you install anything high performance that is not installed by the dealer. I bought an AEM CAI intake from a buddy and I went to the dealers and have them to install it to me cuz I was told by them that they will void my warraty if I do the install my self. So I said EFFF it! I took it down to the dealer paid $40 and waited 2 hours for a half an hour job just so my warrany will not be voided.

 

What will void your warranty is if you install an aftermarket product that is not from Scion and it is determined that anyu problemd you are asking to fixed under that warranty had anythin at all to do with the problem.

pretty simple really, and the dealership makes the initial decision, but doesn't have the last word in it. If you disagree with the dealership(not that you are mad and just are crossing your fingers for a different decision, b/c they are probably on the money) you can always go to the manufacturer who actually put the warranty on the car and would ultimately get the warranty bill for your car being fixed if it had been covered.

Don't go installing things that could hurt your scion unless you are willing to fix the car yourself, that is why scion is making all of these accessories available, that is the whole point about them.
