It's a good thing that you cancelled right away. Those are the phishing emails. They can screw you royally.

yeah i got one of those emails saying i bought a Ipod and i didn't click no link in that email

and opened up paypal directly in a new window and it showed no transactions what so ever

I get them all the time to my work account; an email that I don't have anything but work tied to it.
I click them sometimes to see how accurate the fake sites are. A few have been dead on, most aren't even close.
The giveaway is when paypal.com directs to 27.345.2.7 or something like that.

So yes, NEVER, EVER CLICK LINKS IN EMAILS!
Even if it is a legit email. If paypal sends me an email, I'll read it, and then manually go to paypal. That way, you can be sure.
