no dog can compare to a full blooded german rottie. I had 2 of them and they were the love of my life and they both died of old age. Got 2 more a year or year and half ago and lost them in a break up with my (recently found out she is using DOPE) ex fiance. I miss them.

this is at a year old. Over 120lbs at that point.

Miss them soooo much : (

I wholeheartedly agree with the importance of a calibrated monitor.
is your monitor even calibrated?
You know you're right, now that I look at it again the blue is too dark and saturated, I should re process the pic but I dont want to redo it :/

monitor is calibrated.

I just want at least a 430ex. My body has no flash on it at all so i get really limited and have to use natural lighting on EVERYTHING. ha ha

I have one and I love it. It's a good starter flash. You can always upgrade to the 580EX and use the 430 as a slave.

what? do some research before you make comments like that please. AND um... he still has his tail bc the GERMAN rott (whicn conform the FCI standards) breed standard changed a few years ago and they are NOT allowed to dock their tails anymore. AKC has not adaped this change yet.

german rotts are of smaller stature, he may have hit 130 at his largest in the winter, 150+ is typically over weight for a male rotty german or not, and a 150lb female... ive NEVER seen one that big, overweight or not.

430EX (I or II) is a good flash. As long as you don't get the 220EX (or the older 550EX), you should be fine.

As for tips, real about bounce flashing.. this will really improve your photos, and is a great lighting technique for indoor photography.

I think my research is owning and BREEDING them literally all of my life. I haven't bought one in forever so I didn't know they couldn't dock their tails anymore. Personally i prefer their tails to be docked but I've seen some beauties without docked tails. And if u the largest u have gotten is 150 then u've gotten some small rotties. I've seen American Rotties get up to 130. And that's a big american. The Germans we had were pure bred FROM germany. They were bred for their size and for not having any hip problems. All parents were hand picked for size and had to of had not one single hip problem that is common with rotties. The Rotties in the pictures are both well over 100 lbs at maybe a month over a year old. So yeah u can tell they aren't over weight either. we feed them a very strict diet and limit the amount of time food is on the offering plate. ha ha

i was thinking of getting a 430 just cause it has some manual controls to limit the amount of flash coming from it. But i've always heard that the 580 is completely dominant in everyway and it's not even worth getting the 430 unless ur using it for a slave. I personally don't plan on using a slave anytime soon. Just need something I can control the output on and actually have a flash for fill light and creative lighting shots. ha ha

i guess im just getting ____ed with all the people who think tthey know some ____ talkin crap about his tail, especially pit owners. didnt mean to come off like an _______. we wanted his tail docked, but they wouldnt do it. his parents are from germany, perhaps the breeders are just different in ur area to here, ours seem to be less concerned with size and more concerned with conforming to the standard and good agility, hips, stance etc

yeah good hips is a definite thing to look for. it is very common in rotties to have bad ones cause their actual job in Germany is to pull carts. with a bite force at almost 400lbs per square in and a pulling force enough to pull a fully loaded wheel barrel of concrete they are an amazing dog especially for their small stature. Most Rotties in Germany actually don't dock the tails. I prefer docked but it's just something i am used to so of course it looks weird for them not to have it. Ours are also bred to have a DEEP mahogany tone to their "brown" spots. The girl has it but the boy is a lighter color that will get darker with age. His paws are literally as big as my hands. These dogs were bred for show but i kept them as family and have never shown them. U can kinda tell they are daddies boy and girl. ha ha They get sooo excited to see me when they get home that they literally tore through their metal cage and broke my living room window to get to me. I actually had some crappy neighbor that called the humane society on me cause they just didn't like rotties and were afraid of them and when the cop showed up and saw the dogs and saw how they were licking all over them they were like "yeah these dogs are far from mistreated and definitely eat good" and actually went next door to the neighbors and gave them a ticket for calling them out on a false charge. I was soooo laughing at them. ha ha

Ur pup is looking good tho. Nice colors, nice spots, and nice size.

580EX vs 430EX..

there are differences.. it just depends if you need those differences. if you need that extra lumen power, then get it. if you want to trigger other slave ETTL flashes, get it.. otherwise, get a 430EX and take the money you save and get wireless triggers.. much better option IMO.. more creative light options off camera

I use a 430ex and I love my flash.

I use it for fill and creative lighting outdoors and bounce it indoors.

there are times I do wish I had the 580 for outdoor fill.
indoorwise 430ex is really good for me, not many times I think to myself, that I need more power.
