I think the main thing for scion is potential, you get a car with the potential to be more. the 2.4L seems so far to be an engine with great potential. you buy the canvas, and build it up from there.
with that said though, i've said it before here, i personally don't think a 25k-30k scion is out of the question. scion isn't about volume anyways. kids drive Lexus IS's, EVO's, STi's and the like. so it isn't out of the question at all.

the thing all scions must START under 20k.
and an awd car with tons of options as standard as all the scions are would cost much more than 20k.

the TC and the XP should be the 2 future performance vehicles comming from the Scion line, and the perfornace match if possible other cars out there like the Lancer Limited, EVO, STI even the VW GTI, Honda's S2K, WRX, MR2
I know the price will be higher...but for better performance why not...
I know that Scion are market towards younger people and inexpensive, but Scion could make a performance TC/XP for those who wish to buy one with more under the hood...
They make a tuner TC (which has nothing on it, the sun roof dont even open
no cruse control either, and hobcaps on the rims so why not make a performance TC (can be seen in the Scion books) I think they call it a Canvas car or something
The supercharger was a great addition but only produced 200HP...
I love my TC I hope the next generation TC is as beautiful as the 2004-2008 !
I wish the era of the twin turbo will come back! like Transformers and Flat Tops and Night Rider...

twin turbo , dude.... you are talking expensive sportscar or super car we are talking scion . a 12k truck........
the tuner tc had all the cheap things so you save bucks on things you're going to end up changing out anyways... and or have no need for......
it is like a performance tc. save money to put into the performance, or the appearance of the car.
Electronic AWD system, similar to the Rav4 is possible. The vehicle could be made at Subie's plant in Indiana.
On a side note: The Tacoma, Hilux, T100, 4Runner, FJC, GX, LC/LX are designed by Toyota's heavy duty truck subsidiary, Hino. Even some of the 4Runner's and all FJCs are built at Hino's heavy duty truck plant. I'm not sure if Hino got involved with the design of this vehicle since it's unibody. Maybe it's asking too much for the xP to share the same pedigree and durability as the Hilux and Tacoma.

electronic 4x4 ? you mean the system in the 4wdi on the hybrid highlander?
the rav4 has an electronic coupler which engages 2wd , 4wd auto and then 4wd lock. it is not an electrically powered 4wd hybrid system.
and why would they use that if theyre going to share technologies with subaru we'll take good 4wd , not electric 4wd bs.

i just went through my dealer training again (although i admit i went pretty quick) and i didn't see mention of any under 20k policy. i also did a google search and didn't find anything....again quick search and skim. did they really specify under 20k? i don't ever remember that, i've been here since a month or so after launch.
I seem to get the same responses to what i posted though, each time, for the past 4 years. it's always price has to be low. from what i get from scion, price isn't the core focus....it's getting the customers that don't buy toyota/lexus into the toyota fold. and although they put an emphasis on youth, that doesn't restrict them from making a vehicle priced over 20k. i've already named a few cars that are over 20k that are driven by people in scions target market. also, scion doesn't have to target another 100k units from a fourth/fifth model. it could be a target of 30k units a year.

yeah it's not electronic 4wd it is however a system that uses an electric coupler to split power.
and scions business plan states a few things
under 20k starting price
3 models
3 model years per nameplate
they've gone back on 3 model years per name plate already.
will probably trump the 3 model lineup soon (this i agree with)
and the 20k i dunno if it will stay or be gone like the others.

I bet their base models will with in the past 10 years will be under 20 grand. But after addons and such but going with the manuel with no power options you should be looking at under 20k

How many of you actually think the drawing will evolve into the concept and finally into the production model looking like this? How many of our tCs actually look like the drawing? Notice the wide stance, large wheels, raked windscreen, and aggressive hood?

Who wants to see a truck like this anyway?
