Take a look at this:
http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=37378.new

It's for the Mazda 3 exhaust but look at that resonator. Is that what's we're going to have to do to get rid of this high end rattle? Mine goes away when someone holds the muffler up a bit. I really think that it's b/c the muffler has no packing in it and it's just hollow. Really bad design.

But as stated above, anyone WITHOUT a header getting this rattle sound?

If we can all atest to the same problem and all have a small video of the sound, then I'm sure we could do something. Anyone know how to contact them?

This is their website:

http://www.thermalrd.com/

I'm just not sure whether they will help us or not since we did not purchase from them directly. Still if there is a defect in the way they were manufactured, it was in their fabrication.

I don't have much time to go on these boards as often as I would have liked, but I would certainly come together with everyone who has problems to try and fix our issues.

ok, sounds good. If everyone with a problem could get about a 30 second video of their exhaust rattle (both idle and maybe a drive by at 4000 rpm), we can get them on one whole post on here and send the link to the company.

Sound like a plan?

Damn, just reading their warranty part:

The warranty certificate, along with proof of purchase, MUST be presented to the service outlet from which the exhaust product was originally purchased, or any participating dealer, when making a claim for replacement. The original exhaust product must also be returned for repair or exchange for a replacement component of the same part number.
My exhaust never came with any warranty information.

I think we're SOL.

I posted my videos about 7 months ago on page 18.
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...asc&&start=425

Draxas never responded to them. Draxas also said the manufacturer (thermal research) were the ones that were "STRONGLY discouraging" them from sending us replacement rear sections because it was our headers that were making the sound even though they had the alphawerks header in their video. That was all discussed in the previous pages. This thread has been going forever.

That's my impression of him, but I think he got in over his head with this company and that's why he's selling it. He didn't expect this many defects. When I got mine, I sent it back and he said that mine was the 4th out of a batch of 50 that were returned.

Bsmntcuts:
That is the same sound that I had before I welded a bracket on the tip neck and put some red RTV on the side support arm leading to the driver's side. I took the rear slide clamp and had it cut off and welded solid thinking that it would help but it didn't. It's not AS loud as yours is right now, but it's still there. I am starting to be able to live with it b/c I think the carbon from the exhaust is packing it in, but I would like to get it fixed. I would need a new midpipe and rear section now though .

yeah i think he got in way over his head with all these problems. i hope he does help the ones he sold his exhaust to out alot cause we put up a lot of money for this exhaust and now we are putting our time into it to just to get it the way its suppose to sound.we shouldnt have had any problems out of a 800 dollar exhaust system.

Agreed. Even some type of re-embursement would suffice for me since I've already effed up my piping by welding it solid. I was supposed to send him back my first mid section but after 1.5 months of no emails or phone calls, I just told my dad to take it to the dump. I can't keep sh*t around the house forever!

I don't know what the re-embursement would be but maybe enough to buy a new rear section from another company. I guess 350$. I would still have to cough up the 200+ for the mid pipe from ZPI, but at least the rear section would be taken care of.

Im thinking of cutting the muffler out and getting a new one welded in place. Same thing with the resonator.

Yeah, I might do that in the Spring. I might do a spin tech muffler just to get a low grumble. I had a truck and loved that sound so I might bring it to the tC. Some of them have it on here. Dr. Isotope has one and it sounds sick. It's more of a turbo exhaust sound with an old school hint. Yeah, the resonator might be a good idea. I guess that might be something for all of us to do. I might just do the muffler first b/c I have no rasp what so ever with my setup now. Just that damn muffler rattle.

has anyone isolated the cause of the problem? I heard someone mention it was the cat rattling and not the muffler (which could be true since the rattle is much more intense on a cold start and quiets down a little after it warms up). If it's just the cat then we can cut it out and just weld a SS magnaflow one in place and call it a day. I just don't have the time or patience (or money) to experiment and see exactly what does it.

I've checked my CAT and had my head under the car as my dad floored it. Mine was definately in the muffler section.
