Official Turbo FAQ with Electrical Guide
great post! learned a lot... now i know how to read my UEGO, and what my pyrometer reading should be... i was worried, cuz in the summer i was getting 16k readings!!!
1 question in response... you seem to have concerns with the e-manage blue on partial throttle but you still like it for modest setups. I am a little confused... for a daily driver putting an automatic to 250whp at 8.5psi lets say. I do not plan on flooring it everytime i get out of idle, so more complete control would in theory be a neccesity. Yet you say that is smaller turbo setups with reliability being key, blue is a great choice... I just hope for more clarification as i am deciding on either opition 1 or 2 with the Greddy kit sitting in my basement...

Both emanages only control your full throttle fuel curves.
We sell a unit that works on all tC turbo kits that allows you to tune your partial throttle fuel ratios. You can buy it here:

You want a good piggy back unit with both fuel and ignition control. The Dezod black box we sell gives you ideal fuel curves in partial throttle as well.
Engine management is one of the most important aspects of a turbocharged car.

There are no shortcuts in the FI game. None.
About the Tunning and EM. So a stand alone is costly but offers wide ranges in tunning both WOT and particial throttle which is best. A piggy back ECU only tunes WOT and lacks the ability to tune partial throttle but at low boost its acceptable. A piggy back with the Dezod black box will help the partial throttle response. If the statments are right, the Piggy and Black box would run you about $700-$850 thats pretty close to the cost of a used Stand alone ECU. I'm gong to be running a unique set-up. I know some Pro-Tunners. They tell me to spend the money on a AEM stand alone. Money is no option to them, it is to me. Just trying to find out whats best for me.
The AEM costs a little more when it comes to labor and adapting. There's no PnP option for the AEM that just connects and goes. The Emanage, PnP harness, and black box, give you really nice tuning control, and is full plug and play. You save well over $500. If street is the majority of where you'll be, and money is a factor, it's still a nice way to go.

hey joe, great post... i have a question, im trying to do my own installation for my turbo , just wondering what is a teflon tape that most people put in, and where should it be placed? thanks...
You use teflon for any vacuume source, if you need it. I never use teflon on the turbo kit intsalles I do. I use red RTV sealant. You can buy it at Pep Boys and Auto Zone. Use the sealant for oil pan gaskets, oil feed lines, etc. For the vacuum lines, using the right "T's" and banjo bolts (for the TiAL wastegate) will allow you to use just vacuum lines with no teflon. Hope that helps.
