DIY: Switchblade Key Conversion

I don't know about you, but it would bother me to have that trunk release button and nothing internally attached to it. On top of that, the alarm button is unlabeled & it costs $50 w/o shipping..
The only thing I'm worried about the key everyone's buying is the thin metal cover & how long that'll last. We'll see though..gonna order it order in a couple days

the trunk button wouldnt really bother me as much and as far as the alarm...pos i dont have one haha
i know $50 is pretty steep but i just fell in love with how oem it looks...i like the other one too but just not fully convinced. but for roughly around $20, i might give it a try

If you really like how it looks and have the money to spend, go for it. Personally I wouldn't buy that one for various reasons (already discussed) but someone has to do it at some point, right?

The one I figure bought came with 2 also. And I needed the second one. Had hastily done reassembly before everything was tested.
That's why I put a note in the DIY about not finishing the assembly until it was tested...

Here's a coupon code for __________ for $5 off $20 (one key) or more or $10 off $40 (two keys) or more. I don't know how many times it can be used - but it's worth a try.
Code: 10Spring4E6N
Enjoy!

Oh btw, thanks for the write up ack! I ordered mine a couple days ago and I'll be following these instructions when I work on mine. Doesn't seem too hard
funny..I'm going to be using my spare key which is in PERFECT condition, never used it. For what it costs at the dealership (replacement is 100? 200?), I'm going to be cutting it up and taking it apart for the use of this $17 key haha

just received an email and they said they're gonna send me a replacement of that button.
While I'm looking at the assembly, I think I know why some, if not all, of your panic buttons don't work.
Note: To view the angle I'm referring this info to, open up the new key, have the actual metal key on the left (key release button on the top left, transponder on top right)
the panic button is designed so that you press the top button, but that button isn't the panic button. It's the blank. The panic button is located on the bottom, which is actually covered when you assemble the key. You actually have no access to the panic button when you close it up. I think I might have a simple solution though..I'll try it once I get my panic button.

The first one I got was cut out funny... the panic was definitely towards the top when you put the fob into it. And by top, I do mean towards the actual key hinge.
It looks like these dino ones are coming opposite of that. So you'd need to cut up the foam inserts to flip the internal buttons around 180 deg.

When you put on the metal cover, it covers the panic button hole..so I've got an idea but I'm not gonna test it til I get my button
I wouldn't be able to use this key regularly, if I don't have the panic button. Saves me so much time when I forget where I parked my car lol
