I just got my new key cut and it unlocks the doors fine and I can even turn the car on to accessory mode. But the engine refuses to turn over with it in the ignition. If I use my normal key, the car turns on just fine. I haven't switched the innards over to the new fob yet, but I'm holding the original key next to it when I'm trying to turn the car on.

Is there some reason the transmitter needs to be in the fob for it to work, or did my key just not get cut right?

^^You need the transponder in the new key, the car will crank but it won't start without it in the new key.

just finished mine and it works great. i took my key to a local locksmith and got it cut for free. came home, heat up the chip with the blow dryer and remove the chip. transfered the guts (i had to move them around a bit) and all is good. one thing i should of done before i closed everything up, i didnt put the ring on the key so it was a PITA to try to get one in. Id suggest before you close it up, put the key ring on before you do so or unless you have a big ring you'll be fine. the little rings wont work. thanks for this DIY!

I actually left mine off my keychain. I like it by itself, doesn't leverage the tumbler as much without the other keys on it.

Just got my fob in the mail... came with "colorful mud" or something? A little plastic bag full of multicolored tiny bb-lookin' things. Apparently they grow when you put them in water.

Pretty random.

Gettin' the key cut tomorrow... will post results.

I have a problem. Lowes and home depot both told me they dont cut foreign keys, so i went to a locksmith. however, he messed up somehow and the key will only go into the ignition but will not turn. any fixes? I really dont wanna order a replacement from dino because shipping takes so long. any help is appreciated

i agree..__________'s service sucks ___.

I ordered mine on Feb 26, got it two weeks later, and the alarm button's missing. First replacement went out, but got lost in transaction..made me wait a damn MONTH before they put out a second replacement. still waiting for that button to come..all this waiting really killed the excitement out of this project.

Got the key cut at the locksmith, works fine. I glued one of the extra Toyota badges to my club key.

has anybody ran into a problem with the switchblade where the "panic" button is on the wrong side or opposite side???

i bought the key, installed the interior/gut from the old key over to the switchblade, however the panic button is on the side where the key fob has no function. the lock and unlock works just fine.

any thoughts?

yep...whoever is making it now has the layout reversed.

if u scroll back to the bottom of page 10, i said something about it and ack154 came up with the idea to rotate the guts 180 degrees

basically you're going to have to recut the foam piece to have the internals fit the other way around
