Default how do u tell if SUB is blown?

hey guys i just spent this weekend installing my system in my scion tc, everything is excellent except that my left sub (out of 2 in the box) is not working. now the obvious suggestion is to check the connections of the speaker on the inside of the box...so i did that and nothing. i want to next try to switch the left sub with the right sub and see if its actually making a connection on that side of the box, or perhaps its just blown ?? how do u know if a speaker is blown, does it just not work? the right one deffinitely kicks the left one just sits there...i dont know wot to do...

if the cone is torn, you can hear a rattle coming from it

Check the connections to the sub with a multimeter and make sure it very close to the impedance the sub is rated at. If it's 0, you have a short. If it's super high or not readable a connection is not being made. If you get 4 ohms or whatever the speaker should be then look toward your amplifier. Switch connections from the good sub and the one not playing. If the one that previously wasn't playing comes to life then there's either a problem with your amp or the setup. Check your RCAs coming in if it's a 2-channel amp. If you can swap them and the speaker that plays changes you may have just pulled one off during the install.

the easyest way to check if the sub is blow is to press lightly on the center of the speaker as if you were mimiking the movement of a speaker when sound is playing through it. you should recieve two different results. If you hear any type of scraping such as coils on maginate sound the speaker is faulty or blown. If there is no sound of scraping and moves smoothly then the speaker is still good and you need to possibly check the rca cable connections to the stereo and amp, the speaker wire to the sub, and I know this is sometimes stupid to say, but the power, ground and remote wires are properly installed.

Hope that this helps you out. Email me if you have any questions Edge_62@hotmail.com

I'm sorry, but that's actually a very poor suggestion...NEVER press on a cone to "test" the speaker. If you did that to ANY eD sub, you'd hear scratching. Why? Because the gap the VC sits in is a lot smaller then a lot of other subs and unless your hand can apply perfectly even pressure across the sub, you're going to hear scratching.

BEST thing to do is go w/ the multimeter...that way if the sub isn't damaged, you won't damage it by pressing on it.

Alright quick rundown of situation

the speaker didnt work in the last car i had, I only noticed for the last 2 weeks that it stopped working before i traded it in, so i was like ____

then i installed the speaker in my tc (new wiring kit and such) so i dont believe it has anything to do with my rca connections are grounding...cuz it didnt work in two cars with two different wiring kits

i still have yet ot obtain a multimeter, prolly on saturday, but ya its random just the one speaker works while the other one sits there and watches...
