THE tC iPod Thread
i've asked this question on a couple of other post but i'll try here too.
i have the avn5435 and i have heard that the ipod hook up they sell sucks. so i was told that the mini to rca works. i hooked up everthing and i can get sound from my ipod but how do i get the video to work.
i have an ipod video and hook up the wires correctly (red to red, white to white, and yellow to yellow) but i can't seem to get video from my ipod. i have a few videos on my ipod that i would like to watch on my avn5435 but i don't know if i'm hooking something up wrong or not.

I have a AVN5435 and have the audio/vid cables coming out to the headphone style jack and have been able to watch video and listen to my music easily.
I like it because I can pick up the ipod and lay it down easily, but I am trying to use the little change holder area, and its not the best fit for the 30gb video...I was thinking of making some kind of mount for it, or fabricate some kind of dock in that area...but I dont know how to make that stuff to look OEM...any tips/ideas on clean storage for it with easy access to grab it?
I was thinking of just getting a dock like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/BLK-Dock-Station...QQcmdZViewItem
and then fabricating a mount...would be cool to make a metal piece that sticks out slightly with the dock next to your knee area somehow...any custom pics of peoples setups??

Ok, I read through this thread and just want to confirm some things before I spend the money on an expensive cable.
I have a 2006 Scion with the ipod HU.
The cable to go from the port labeled iPod to my iPod is PT546-21061, correct?
I plan to buy it from http://toyotaterritory.com/sciontc.aspX, does anyone have any experience with them?
Thanks

The cable that plugs into the console and connects to the iPod is part number PT546-21062.
I think dealers charge around 78.00 for them.
Or they can be ordered from "Scionterritory.net', which lists them for around 63.00 each.

I just purchased an '05 tC with the standard single cd pioneer unit and before I saw this forum I put a bid in on a CD-IB100II pioneer adapter on ebay. I apologize ahead of time for asking noob questions, but from what I've read here it seems that this will not work with my stereo? Are there ways to make this work/is it worthwhile? I was really hoping to have text on the h/u screen but I got the impression that is that text won't show up even if i do get it to connect.
Second question, possibly o/t? I wanted to buy a gps unit and was curious if
a)any came with aux or line in inputs for sounds and could i connect them on the '05
b)if i can do the above, any gps units people know of you can connect an ipod to, possibly use the touch screen to control it? (figuring if the gps works with aux/line in and i can hook one up i can use this to play my ipod as well)
Don't know if any of these things are at all possible so any help would be sincerely appreciated!!!

I got an iPod the other day as a b-day gift and i'm planning to use it in the car only. I have an 07 but not the ipod unit. I do have an AUX port in the armrest. After searching amazon, will this do the trick?

hey, this maybe asked already or you guys might think this is a stupid question but i have the 06' TC but i dont have the ipod upgrade so i'm trying to do the aux input method with 3.5 mm male to male cable that i got at bestbuy, but it is still not playing and i know it doesnt have any aux button that i could press on the system. what do i press? satellite?
I have an '06 that had the standard radio. I recently put in an '06 upgraded factory radio. The connector for the iPod cable is there behind the radio, it's part of the wiring harness. It terminates at another connector under the shifter. This connector attaches to a cable that's attached to the iPod socket in the center console. Got it?
SO. . . If you have an '06 or '07 with the standard radio, you can swap it with an upgraded factor radio and get the iPod socket that attaches to the center console. The cover plate is removed, the socket inserted and the cable attached under the shifter and you've got an upgraded audio system as if it was from the factory.

If you look on the crutchfield site it says the ipod2car adapter isn't compatible with the '05 scion with the factory head unit. Is this because you have to purchase the PXHTY1 cable to connect from the ipod2car to the HU separately from them? Other sites say that it is compatible. I know I'm being ****, but I just want to double check. Crutchfield has it for $99 + $7 for the cable with free shipping.
There are two ways to connect an iPod to the HU. The auxillary plug in the center console allows you to hear the sound thru your radio, but you can't control the iPod. If you have the upgraded radio, you can CONTROL the iPod from the radio. Ours is an '06, not sure about the '05 radio. If you have the "AUX" outlet in your console, you can plug the iPod or other source into it with a simple cable you can get at Walmart.
I hope this helps. Let me know if it wasn't clear.

It was clear, but it doesn't address my issue. I have an '05 tC with the stock head unit (non 6-CD changer). I do believe there is the CD-Changer plug in the back, so the ipod2car adapter (to my understanding) will allow me to control my ipod as if it were a CD-Changer.
My question is this: Crutchfield says the ipod2car is not compatible with my tC, but Peripheral says it is. I was wondering if this is because at Crutchfield you have to purchase the PXHTY1 and PXHTY2 or PXHTY3 independently.
Peripheral says its compatible, so I think I'll take their word on it and just purchase it and see what happens
I can always return it.
**EDIT**
I purchased an ipod2car kit off ebay for $100 with all appropriate cables. we'll see how it works. anyone know how to control it? I read somewhere ( can't remember where ) that I have to hit Disc twice to activate it.
now i just have to figure out where i want to mount my ipod.
