I'm trying to stay legit, so they can't possibly give me a ticket for anything on my car, but I'm still worried about the police hassling me.
and I've never been asked to pop open the hood, in temple city, san gabriel, rosemead, pasadena and monrovia. and my integra has the carbon fiber, its about 4-5 inches off the ground, bright gold volks, exhaust, far from stock. I think if you just don't drive like a butt clown, you won't get asked to pop open the hood.
i got pulled for amplified sound. wtf. it wasnt even that loud when i tested it myself in an open lot (cant be heard 50ft). he caught me for my sound system but he didnt catch the girl for making an illegal uturn and causing traffic in the same garage. messed up.

I'd have a defense lawyer on retainer for that BS. I mean that's really what it is.
You're telling me I can walk onto a car lot, buy...
-- A brand new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, with a 4 cylinder engine with aggressive exhaust, an intercooler, and a turbo that makes it push out about 271 hp or...
-- A brand new Eclipse that has most of the same stuff, pushing about 263 horsepower or...
-- A Mustang GT pushing 300 horsepower OR.....
-- A brand new Mustang Shelby GT 500 supercharged and pushing 500 HORSEPOWER....
But I can't buy a stock Scion tC and tinker with it to produce even half the power of any of those? And it's because 'they come like that from the dealer?'
Oh yes....my lawyer and I would have a field day. Seriously, y'all need to organize and form a petition or something. That's a load of crap.

That being said, many, many people in California modify their cars and get away with it, after all, where do you think most car performance parts come from? The key is NOT to draw attention to yourself with bad driving or obnoxious "rice" mods, and in this case, all the OP needed to do was powder coat or paint his intercooler black and the cop probably wouldn't have had him pop his hood.
For ALL my Cali people: the laws are posted for you to read, don't say you weren't warned --> https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=165444
Drive safely and keep your mods to yourself, don't make a cop's job easy.
If you got sick of CALI being all over your butt.. MOVE TO UTAH!
i know utah suck in some way but look at the bright side.. the cops here are mostly mormon and they are too nice. they believe in the religion as "forgiven" and will let you get off it easy.
i got 20% tint on my window and i passed by many cops here and none of them pulled me over (knocked on the desk)
but there is one thing i hate about utah roads.. too many bump and dips. if you slabbed some bodykit and lowered it,,, you are asking to have it peeled off.

Here's the question though. It's a fix-it ticket, right? RIGHT!
Is your ticket marked correctable or non-correctable?
I got a fix-it ticket for no front plate on my school campus & had to pay $30 but never had to have a ref check it because it was marked non-correctable.
However, in October, on my way to SEMA I got pulled over for no front plate & blue turn signals & now I have to have a ref check it off & pay the $10 fee because it was marked correctable.
Oh & might I add....he could've popped me for a supercharger (even though it's TRD, & 50 state legal, they WILL find a reason to bust you for it regardless), modified exhaust (i got a warning but no official ticket for it), front mount intercooler, headers, & everything, but he didn't. I hear it's illegal to modify the actual body of the car, too, which I'm widebody but I don't know if that's true or not.

First, defense lawyers get paid to get you off for an offense. Yeah, there are speed laws too, but none of the 9 tickets I've gotten since I've been home are on my record and I've only paid a couple of the fines for "deferred adjudication.' Laugh me out of their office? Yeah right.

I don't care how long these lame laws are, they seem to be clearly driven to support car dealers since the dealer can get away with turning a 4-banger into a riced out muscle car but the average citizen can't. That's lame. And no one needs to "get over it" because in this country, laws are subject to change with enough pressure from the people.
damn Bryan you made this guys day. sure knightman do whatever you want with your car and drive it the way you want, but when it comes to getting caught with a turbo your guilty no matter what cause there not carb legal on our cars so at that point your breaking the law and can't go ahead and say i'm gonna get my lawyer and fight it off. when you look at the parts they say "for off-road use only" does that mean you should be using it in public highways..nope but everyone decides to and as long as you don't make a fool out of yourself you should be fine. btw there is no reason why to act immature by putting 'lick my nut' as you posted. it saids your 29, well start acting more mature cause your actiing like a damn middle school kid.

And I've said I don't plan on getting a turbo, if anything it'd be a supercharger. But since it doesn't come stock, technically they're saying it's illegal, which is retarded. If a stock Mustang can have a super, so can my tC.

As for mounting a plate with a widebody...why would it be any different than mounting it on a front bumper? I take a couple screws, lock washers & a drill, badabing badaboom, I have a front plate. However, I didn't take that route now. I put my front plate on my car (in a way so that I didn't have to drill holes in the actual visible part of the bumper) because my car is flashy as hell & I don't wanna be hassled by cops the few times I decide to drive it a year (I've driven it 4 times in the past 2 & a half months). At this point, exterior-wise I don't think I have any exterior mods that are against the law. Which gives cops no reason to pull me over.....with the exception that my car's pink.
I truly think I was pulled over just so the cop can check out my car. He said "license and registration, by the way, what the hell is this?". No joke! I had been driving around before with no front plate & blue turn signals for a good 8 months or so & never had an issue with cops (with the exception of when I got my no front plate ticket on campus at school while in class, my school has their own sheriff station - how convenient, right?). Yet, the first time I drove the car when I got it back from the shop, I got popped.

As for the GT/Cobra discussion......that's moot. I said Shelby GT500. And it can, in fact, smoke a regular Mustang GT. It's base torque is 475. But that's a discussion for another thread on another site, I'd imagine.
