Assuming that TRD is modest by 15% (this is a rough average of the two examples given; 22% modesty for tC pricing and 12% for XRS times) than the s/c will push out approximately 230 hp.

What do we keep hearing? 250, 240, 210, 200. 240 whp and up and it might be worth it...
Hey, everyone is forgetting to figure in the "modesty" in the original release date for the SC. -300%.

Believe it or not, the last time Toyota had a factory SC on a vehicle, it actually got BETTER mileage than the NA model. You have to go back to the 1994 Previa to see this and I don't know if this one will be better or worse, but some superchargers can improve mileage.
What do you mean 1994 Previa was the last Toyota with a factory supercharger?

The Tacoma and Solara offered S/C's in recent years.

Also, looking at the TRD price sheet, they have S/C available for Camry, Corolla, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, Matrix, Sequoia, Sienna, Solara, T100, Tacoma, Tundra, and a few Lexus vehicles. But no tC listed...of course the list is as of 3-10-05.

Sienna compatible SC? Nice, now i know what a good father's day present might be ;)

sorry guys.. but my money's still on a 40-50 HP gain.. i'd love it if it were going to be more but i have some serious doubt about that. it doesn't seem logical/practical for TRD to put something much more powerful than that out. hopefully i'm wrong.

in the toyota world what is out right now that is competeiing with the tC. they discontinued the celica so why wouldnt toyota have a "tuner" car under there belts. i honestly hope for 220whp honestly but thats me. theres no way TRD will compete with companies like ZPI and SS for there low end kits which are producing more power and cost are roughly the same. the warrently does factor in but the real tuners out there dont care about warrenty. ill shut up now.

Even thou many of these people don't care about staying street legal, a vast majority of them do. Most of us want a car that is fun to drive around the block and not a car that can only be driven in the track. ZPI and Scionspeed are most likely to make more power with there kit, but me, for one, still want to be able to drive it after 5 years. Of course, if Scionspeed can get there kit CARB legal, that will be the best case scenario. Till then, with warranty, CARB legal and modest power, TRD is still the most appealing deal here.

at first factory s/c sounded good to me, better performance , valid warranty.... but come on, the 06's are out, i am 1/2 through the mileage on my warranty. took them quite a while.

plus, i only have about 32 cents in my checking account =X

Kris79 - The style of SC wont give you much torque if I understand it correctly. The thing builds more power and tq as the rev's go up.

But i don't see everyone and thier mom running out and getting a turbo cuz of the warranty. So it is worth it in the long run if you want to stomp on Type S's and other miscelaneous cars.

I just hope we can get enough of them
Warranty is great when you have it. The thing is there is plenty of TC's out there that get driven a lot. Bottom line, Scion waited / failed to release the SC quick enough. Had it been out when I bought the car it would be on it. Since my car is going to have 20k on it by October and it has some rediculiously short warranty, I could care less that the SC will not void warranty. I am going to be out of warranty support by July next year.

Sweet! Its good to finally see some details about the supercharger.

Of course, I was hoping for more of a $3k price installed, $3750 is awfully close to the big 4k number. Here's hoping that "200+" will be nicely above 200, not something like 205 or 210 And whp at that, not crank (although I don't really expect that, honestly.) Just going to have to wait and see the real results- it may be worth it, it may not. That much money could buy a lot of other mods, on the other hand having a F/I car is something I really want at some point. It'll definitely be more appealing to newer owners that haven't used up most of (or any) of their warranty though, if I was in that position I'd be a lot more interested in the turbos coming out, like a lot of the other posters here are.

I think that 40-50hp is probably the most realistic estimate. It seems to be about the gain that most factory superchargers give (see 1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, for instance).

I think we'd all be better off to just wait until the warrenty period on our car runs out, then go with one of the turbo kits that are out.

well, so much for being "affordable" like scion stated it would be in the very beginning of the launch of the tc last year. $3,750 or $3,200 is far from affordable for what this thing is supposed to do, adding only 40 hp. i expected around $2000 uninstalled and then just a few hundred at most for installation, which would still be a lot for installation. even $2,000 is not easy at all for scion's target age group to come up with for this thing.

Yah really.. for 4k I am putting in carpet in my house, minor remodel in the half bath downstairs and laminate/hardwood in the entry, half bath and laundry... Doing all the work myself, but still. Money well spent, that SC seems like a joke for that kinda money. We'll just have to wait until final release, dyno, reviews etc... Jan 06 is another half year away.

i agree. reviews will be the best way to get an idea if this thing really is any good afterall, even though they will all be the opinions of others. but nothing would beat driving one yourself. unfortunately it looks like the only way to do that will be to buy it. unless some dealers load up a few of their tcs on the lot with the sc like they do with other options, which come to think of it, i bet they will.

So true, anyone that is going to want a SC prolly wont be able to afford one at that price...

Ya know, you guys have a serious point- all the other TRD superchargers are a lot cheaper...? (I am thinking of the Corolla/Matrix SC in particular.) That's sort of well...odd, considering that affordability is one of Scion's big selling points. It just doesn't make much sense to me.

Granted, I still want it and may get it with my eventual tC purchase, but it does kind of kill the lots of car/options to affordability feeling that the entire Scion brand has. For that amount of money, I could get the pedestal spoiler, lip kit (or heck, any body kit,) lowering springs, leather seats, cai, header, and cat-back exhaust with money left over for some other simple mods (lights, sport pedals, etc and such.) Man, its a good thing i'm not making this decision any time soon, I guess

I spoke with my local dealer today, here's what they said:

- TRD supercharger is planned from an August/September release, but they think realistically, it will be available in October/November
- They said it will run for about $3,500-$3,700 installed
- It will produce over 200hp (not known how much, or whether 200whp or crank)

All I know. Don't kill the messenger.
