Well guys, I just had a look @ the specs for the Pontiac Grand Prix, and up until recently, the GP was only producing 40 extra Hp for about $3670 and that car was a V-6. So $80 per horse under warranty isn't that bad.

3200 is very worth this supercharger, the power capabilities after a pulley swap are amazing. 2.4 litres plus 7 pounds boost is easily over 300hp, trd will be probably round 2-3 lb of boost, the engine can handle 7 no sweat. best will be that the ignition will be remapped to the supercharger, so no need for a chipping

i honestly think that Toyota is planning the price around selling a lot of the superchargers WITH the tC at time of purchase. when i bought my tC last July, there was NOTHING out for it yet from the factory (aside from shift *****, carbon-fiber appliques and the like) and now I see most tC's with a spoiler or bodykit or some other option installed from the factory that way. honestly, if the the S/C had been an option available to me (like many others) at the time of my purchase a year ago, i would've been all over it.

CONFIRMED!!!!!

I just got a phone call from my DM. I hadn't asked him about the memo on page 1 of this thread, but he quoted it verbatum, plus added a couple of extra details. The "over the counter" price will be $2700. The $3200 cost is the installed cost, although that's based on 5 hours labor and I know of very few dealerships that actually charge $100 per hour labor. Depending on the labor charges at the dealers, you are looking at $3000 to $3100 installed, with warranty.

Delivery time is September 1. I actually believe it now.

That's more like it. Do you know if we can have it installed at port or is it a dealership-only thing? Do we have to have it installed at a dealership for the warranty? With other accessories do you or do you not have to have it installed at a dealership for the warranty?

Not available at the port so dealer or do-it-yourself. For the warranty, it has to be dealer installed.

I know this may be redundant.. but if they have the pricing and release date down, why are there no HP numbers??

$3000-3100 still seems a little steep to me, unless of course you can get 230-240 HP. I was hoping for more like $2500-2700 installed.

I've read several places Scion was going to offer a factory installed SC. When would this be available?

The quote I got was "They're listing it at 200 plus. I heard 204, but they're just saying 200 plus." That's unofficial, but probably correct.

There are no plans for a factory installed SC. I've never heard that rumor.

That rumor started from an Automotive News article where a quote from Jim Farley was taken out of context. It had all the 05 tC owners ____ed because it made it sound like the superchager was only going to be a factory option, when just the opposite is true.

I'm not sure if I would call it a rumor. See the news posting at Autoweek.com for February 1st, 2005. Posting pretty much implies SC will be available installed from factory this year (it says April, but we already know this is wrong) due to strong consumer demand.

Autoweek took the information from the Automotive News article I referenced. My (former) regional represtative attended the speech the media got this idea from and he said that was not what Farley meant at all. Regardless of where the information came from originally, it's not true.

There is a specific reason why the supercharger can't be installed in Japan that my regional rep told me. I forget it now. Something about regulations on importing a supercharged vehicle? I don't know why the supercharger can't be installed at port though. There must be a reason for that too. I would rather a port tech that installed hundreds of superchargers install mine rather than a dealership tech who has only done a handful. Cliffy?

The article was incorrect and not just with regard to the plans for the supercharger. The article stated that this alleged factory SC model of the tC would be Toyota's first and that the Matrix was really the only other one that had been available with an aftermarket SC. Well, the 94-95 Previa had a factory SC and the 1st generation MR2 had one. As for what has been available aftermarket, there are plenty of Solaras, Tundras, Tacomas and 4Runners floating around with TRD super chargers. The article was off base and incorrect. There has never been a plan to offer the SC from the factory.

By the way, I know this might be a little off topic, but roughly how much do the SC cost for the other Toyota models (just for my comparison)? Especially the SC for the 1.8L engine.

I don't think that is a concern. I spoke to a couple of guys at CAT who had installed one. They said it was easier than they had expected. While the labor time is listed at 5 hours, it took them less than 2 hours and that was the first time they had laid hands on it. They felt it could be done in less than an hour once a person had done one or two.

The techs at the port really are no better than most dealership techs.

Cool. That does make me feel a little better. Hopefully that means that people will not be charged for 5 hours of labor?

Don't bet on it. If the book calls for 5 hours and it only takes 2, they'll still charge 5 hours. The reverse is also true though. The lighting kit in the xB only pays 1 hour, but in reality, it can take 2. those things are a _____ but they only charge the alloted hour.
