Very easy, especially since you gave me the wire colors. I bought a second IBF for my wife's car, and will have to figure out the positive and negative wires for it.

Great info, and definitely easy install! Got one for each car. Hardest thing was figuring how to remove the xB third brake light plastic cover . Great info, and vender was quick with shipping.

Heheheheh... I hear ya on that.

As often as I've taken mine off I'm still not sure. I usually push one way then another than another and suddenly it pops off and I'm happy.

Tomas (or anyone else here)-

Did you trip any VSC/TRAC/ABS lights when you modified the third brake light? I am getting that cluster for my Oznium TBL install...

Vanilla has never thrown ANY codes.

My Oznium TBL did not cause any problems (nor did the solid state flasher I used with both the OEM TBL and the Oznium TBL).

Seems unlikely that the TBL would cause the jackpot cluster of three lights.

Stop by an auto parts shop (AutoZone, O'Reilly, Pep Boys, etc.) and have them check what the code actually is with their OBDII (most do it free, hoping you need parts), and look it up either in their reference or in one of the references in the "Scion Docs" link in my signature...

Yeah i have run for codes, and no codes come up. I might not have the right equipment to detect malfunctions with the brake system since the CEL isnt on. Well thanks for your speedy reply.

I got the light when I tried using an LED third brake light. You get the codes because the system is trying to tell you the light is burned out. It doesn't draw enough juice. Adding a resistor should take care of it and trick the system.

yeah, bb i saw your posts in a lot of archived threads when i searched for similar problems. honestly, i have no idea what a resistor is so is there any way you could help me with that? maybe a link to a radioshack resistor that i need to buy? and what do i do with it? how do i install it? sorry, I am quite the car novice, I know very little, and all my car knowledge all comes from Google and the internet. remember! I am only 18!!!!

Also Tomas or BB, these lights seem to not be a problem with the brake system whatsoever and may be just related to the third brake light. Question: Since the lights are on, does that mean all the safety features are automatically disabled even if there is no problem with them? I hate driving around with no traction, stability control, or ABS if that is the case!!!! Would you guys happen to know???

Did you try clearing the codes and changing the bulb back to stock and see if the lights go away?
The resistor is a load equalizer like you use to make your turn signals blink right. It tricks the system into thinking a standard bulb it in the light.

I have not tried to put the stock bulb back in yet, I plan to test that tonight and I will post my findings here.

Tom,
Thanks for sharing that!
I have been getting into the habit of when coming to a stop getting on/off the brake like 2-5 times typically. So, in effect I create the same thing with my right leg on the brake pedal.

I may be off base with this, but pumping your brakes may also help disipate heat created when the pad/rotor come into contact with each other. I'd think it should extend the service intervals of brake usage (versus just riding your brakes all the way to a stop). If you own a Automatic, then you don't have the luxury of doing this.

Just to update this, there is another thread where this was thrashed out in detail and it has been found that the problem is actually an interaction between an LED Third Brake Light and an aftermarket trailer towing wiring harness that has a solid state module to convert from the separate turn and brake wiring on the car to combined turn/brake wiring on the trailer.

When the trailer wiring harness is disconnected everything works normally, without causing any trouble lights on the dash.

See: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=197935

...for the detailed discussion and troubleshooting involved.

Tom

Thanks Tom for the update, I should have done that before but great job. That way Googlers in the future will know what is going on. Thanks!
