New AVIC-D3 Installed (Pics)
Yeah, it's not hard to install the system. The hardest thing would have to be the speed sensor wire (if it has one). But even that's not too hard.
If you have installed any other car stereo, the wire harness is very similar to that.
Also, it's highly recommended that you get an install kit (just the face plate that goes around the sides to cover up the spacing). You shouldn't need more than that because the brackets can be taken off your OEM stereo and put on this one.

I just finished my D3 install along with an XM tuner (which I mounted next to the ECU actually strapped onto it), and IPOD cable that I ran into the glove compartment. Installation went without a hitch, the speed sensor wire I use was from the HVAC cable (the orange wire on the top row #14 from the left), both the GPS and XM antenna I mounted it under the windshield wiper cowl. This weekend I will mount the rear view camera. I took off the panels of the hatch lid, and I will probably mount the cam right next to the license plate light. I will post pics of that since people will be curious to see it.
First impressions, I love it, I did the bypass, drove around with it and it works fine it never complained about a parking brake wire or anything. The IPOD control is cool, I havent got to play around with that one to much it. XM is cool, nothing new about that. The NAVI, I havent gotten a chance to test out the full capability of it yet.
The lights of the radio is currently set to constantly change colors which looks cool.
I havent tried a DVD movie yet, I will try sometime later.

Ahhh, so you went through the firewall then under the wiper cowl? That'll be my #2 spot if the center vent location doesn't work out. Thanks for the idea!
Is the HVAC cable the one that connects clock/climate control to the center dash piece?
Please do post pix of the camera install, I need ideas. I thought about using 3M automotive tape and attaching it to the license plate. If nothing works out I might just sell the Pioneer camera and get that license plate frame with swivel camera.

Yep through the fire wall behind the ECU.
Yep the HVAC cable that connects to the clock/climate control.
So yeah for the camera I will post pics. It look like it is doable, it will just need a little of finesse.

If anyone wants a great deal on D3's, let me know, I have a few.

I'm starting my install now. Just doing the bluetooth module tonight, the camera will have to wait. Chapman/Trialsindude/anyone, did you tap the reverse sensor all the way in back at the reverse light for the HU? Can go without it for now, until I do the camera?

I did not tap the reverse wire, I've read from different sources it is used mainly for the reverse camera. UNLESS you plan on driving in reverse for long period of times which will throw the GPS off a little.
I read somewhere on this board the reverse sensor is somewhere under the steering column so you dont have to run the wire all the way back.

My GPS antenna is rolled in foam then shoved between the top of the airvent and dash. Here's pix...
ok, i cant seem to find my bluetooth instructions in my mess, so can anyone explain how or where i install the yellow/black wires that come with the bluetooth?
2) where do i hook-up the RCA cables from my sub/amp too? do i use the same switch from the stock radio, or do i use one of the RCA cables that are on the RCA cords that came w/ the D3?
3)can i ground the yellow/black wire and parking break wire to the same area?

I was installing my D3 and everything in my car with alot of help from everyone on this forum and avic411 and there is one question I have left. Where do I run the power cable for my sirius tuner? The wires are yellow and black for positive and negative. Where is the best place for these wires?

I am not clear on what you are asking with the second question. It seems to me that if you plugged it up to the stock stereo, you wouldn't get any sound??? Just on a whim, I am going to say use the D3 RCA outputs.
For the third question... if you are grounding both of those wires, then yes, you can ground them to the same location.
