I finished installing my D3 along with sirius, ipod, and 2 new speakers. It was my first every car audio install and with the help of this site and avic411 and some special people it went really smooth. All the wires are hidden away behind paneling and the gps and Sirius receivers are mounted on the right side under the spoiler. I still have to install the rear cam since when I ordered from crutchfield the cam went out of stock, but its shipped and coming this week.

Signal worked fine the whole weekend. I was down in Gilroy/Santa Clara/Mtn View and didn't have any reception problems. The GPS software works for the most part, but I find it a bit too stubborn. I took one hwy instead of another and it kept trying to get to me to get off the freeway to go back to the other one. After three exits I cancelled the route. Good thing I bought the D3 for entertainment, my trusty Nuvi is still going with me on trips.

i finished installing the D3 the other day and everything worked fine but i didnt install the IPOD adapter since i did not have it at the time. So i received in the mail yesterday and i had time today to install it. i take the dash off and remove the avic and hook up the ipod cable and run it behind and under the shift and to where the old ipod cable was and i clean up and install everything were it was...then i turn my car on but the avic doesnt turn on. So i take everything apart, i figured teh yellow wire seperated or something, i double check everything and its all fine, so i take the yellow wires apart and re-connect them, but one of them slipped and i touched the outer metal part of the avic and a small spark came up, kinda freaked me out. So i put everything together and still the avic doesnt turn on. So you guys think i just turned my avic into a paperweight by the yellow wire touching it? i checked the fuse on the avic and it was fine, dont know if it would bust if i fried the avic. any ideas what might be wrong if i didnt fry the avic? maybe i blew the radio fuse in the car?

any tips & or ideas, im kinda freaking out here.

I'm going to be getting this somewhere other than crutchfield (they are out of stock and i'm impatient). Crutchfield sells 2 things to go with the install, the wiring harness (which I know I need) and some in-dash reciever kit.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-kz2SlEN...sp?I=120958202

Do I need the second thing?

U dont NEED it...It just fills in the gaps on the sides of the unit. Some guys just use ABS or foam. But I have one and it does make it look factory.

I agree, I have it on my Z1, and it makes the install look very clean. worlds of difference than with nothing there.

How did you get all those things for free? When I go to crutchfield and see avic-d3, it says $999 and only free rear view camera. Got a link for it?

He got all of that by using the Crutchfield.com Coupon, Save 15% on any Pioneer car stereo system consisting of 3 or more components Code: 3A185, Mar 30, 2007. Most of those things come free with the stereo for installation purposes. The $30 gift certificate is free with the Sirius tuner.

Last week I ordered the D3, Sirius, Ipod adapater, pioneer 2 ways, and the free camera for only $1017. The install on the d3 was fairly easy just time consuming for me since it was my first time ever installing a radio. However I love the unit and I still have to install the rear cam which I didn't receive till yesterday.

Yes he is correct, i used the 15% off code hence the D3 was only $849 so not only did i get stuff free but i also saved 15% on everything (has to be pioneer items over 49 or 59 dollars, i dont remember which) they had the BTB100 but i found someone who ordered the BTB200 off avic411.com and used the item code to add it to my cart even though it wasnt in stock, but then again neither was the unit so no biggy. Some people even ordered a whole extra head unit for 179.99 (which counted for 15% off) just to get the free ipod cable and turn around and sell the extra unit (deh4900). And then on top of it all i used a referal code for an extra $20 bucks off. Over all a pretty good deal i think. If i sell off the camera for around $170 it will bring my price down to around $897 for everything and around $660 for the Unit itself.

If Crutchfield had deals like this all the time I would buy everything from them! Thank you avic411.com forum for the 15% off code... I bought the 6 1/2" speakers; I think they also fit in the rear.

See the line item "Toyota Kit 2000-up, DD 2000-up, DD"? That's for a Metra kit that fills the side gaps. Included with purchase from Crutchfield.
