HID Help Thread
Hey now I like broadcast radio! But sadly the one I like has a weak tower that is far away... (103.5 for those in the Toronto area)
I have never installed HID's but the install looks so simple. It has to be harder than changing the radio right? Because that was way too easy for me.
My biggest concern right now is the radio interference (FM/AM). I have read of so many different reasons as to why there is an interference problem:
-Grounding of the radio.
-Analog ballast vs digital ballast.
-The quality of the ballast.
-The placement of the ballast... and more
And for my Canadian folks: Did you keep the stock Halogen's for DRL?
I will most likely be getting a 55W (because it's bright) and 6000k (slight blue color). Based on the reviews on this forum DDM Tuning will most likely be my choice and I am more than willing to spend the extra shipping cost to get it up here
But any help regarding the radio problem would be much appreciated!

I've read through a few pages of this thread and just want to make sure I order the right thing. Was gonna go with ddmtuning for my HIDs. The lows are H11s..what size bulbs are the highs and the foglights? Are the fogs H11's also?
As I repeat again,
PLUG N PLAY HID kits are 99% THE SAME. PLUG AND PLAY
DDM Tuning, Race Sport... none are TRUE OEMs.
Just go on ebay dude, as long as it's not the "xentec" brand. All are nearly the same.
People tend to stick with a "brand" name cuz of their personal experiences with that particular seller / company and by word of mouth. Down to the source, they're all re-branded cheap Asian-made kits.
Don't get cheated and pay extra $$$$ for something you can get for way cheaper on ebay.

I actually install HID's for a living, so if you have any questions or anything - feel free to ask!
I've got 55W 10,000K Blue HID's in my low, high, and fog lights. I love them, and I've never had a problem with them. I've actually got mine bolt mounted next to the fuse box. I'll try and get a pic of it later.
BTW - Don't mount your ballasts with double sided tape. They Vibrate too much and will go out much faster. And it looks bad

Because I get the whole kit for $20, and I drive through the middle of nowhere 4 times a week to get to my school. So i like to drive with my brights on, and their rediculously bright
The thing about high beams is that they require an instant on/off behavior so you have the light right when you want and need it. Having to wait 15 seconds for your high beams to warm up defeats the purpose. Unless you are saying you just ride around with them on and don't turn them off for oncoming traffic.
I just keep them on while i'm on my way to school. I drive through the middle of nowhere for like 30 mins and there's never oncoming traffic. When I get into traffic and stuff I dont use them, because yes as you said, HID high beams dont have the instant brightness when you flick them on. It takes about 15 seconds
Attached are pics of where I put my ballasts. My setup is somewhat of a temporary permanent setup since it's only secured with tie wraps instead of 2-sided tape.
The first one is on the front right side.
The bulb is hidden from the pic but right in front of the windshield washer fluid. The ballast and one side of wires are secured to the huge black cable. One wires could not be secured because it wasn't long enough to pass around the side of the reservoir
The second one is on the front left side.
The ballast is secured to the frame of the car. The tie wrap runs right around the frame and the ballast. Another tie wrap (right one) is holding some wires under the frame section. The middle wrap is just holding the wires together and not secured to any part of the car.
My ballasts were slim enough to fit up on the side frame of the car but I didn't want to put 2 sided tape so I ended up with the attached setup.
I have the DDMTuning 35W 6000k Slim ones. No problems with broadcast radio either! They are digital ballasts. No relays were needed in my setup everything worked first try. I'll be wrapping the connectors with electrical tape later.
For Canadians and those interested in DRL's. My inner lights are dual DRL's and high beams and still stock Halogen and come on in low power once the hand brake goes off. The outer ones are the ones I changed to HID's. As per normal the inner lights go off once the HID's are turned on. Activating high beams keeps the HID's on as well as turning on the inner lights in high power mode.
Enjoy!

Just a quick question for others that ordered the DDM 35w Slim ballast HID kit. I'm actually going to order them today (35w 6000k slim ballast), but I wasn't sure if I needed to add on the HID harness Error Eliminator, or the adapter cables. I figured this would be the best place to ask because a lot of you have already ordered the same kit and would know for sure. Also, just to make sure, the bulbs i want to order for the regular low beams are H11 right? Thanks in advance.
