i haz big hands and my d40 was soo tiny! lol the d90 is bigger but the grip will feel more at home in my hands i dont mind the added weight or size.
my friends d300 had a grip and it was soooo perfect clutched in my gorilla hands!

added weight isn't a disadvantage unless ur REALLY outta shape. I mean if 1 or 2 lbs is killing u then u may wanna hit puberty before u go trying to tackle photography.

A battery grip is a very underrated piece. It adds weight to counter balance the weight of the lens, gives u TWICE the battery life than normal, can let u shoot with AA batteries if ur batteries decharge fully (and AA's can be found at 95% of stores), adds a vertical shutter button when u wanna shoot vertical for portrait style, and the ADDED weight is good cause it keeps ur from flailing the camera around and makes it more stable meaning less chance of camera shake.

You'd be surprised at how often people complain about the weight of their DSLR.

I think the extra weight would probably help just like you said to counter the weight of the lense

I really don't understand why. Just like Speedy, that was my big gripe with the D40. It was too small. This is also one of the reasons I decided not to get the D3100. I don't have big hands or anything but the extra weight just feels more comfortable.

i never used my d40 without a grip. once i was given the camera i already had the grip to put on it. i love the way the camera feels with it, never taken it off and once i upgrade my camera i never plan to be gripless. the weight feels great

so i'm thinking about getting rid of my camera for a while. i have no desire to shoot nor any creative ideas. i've had this feeling for a few weeks now and think it will be good for me. i really want to work on my graphic design skills and if i want to use a dslr, my best friend has a 5dii and a good amount of L lenses. so come the new year all of my gear will most likely go on sale.

does anyone feel like this? i just don't like taking photos of anything right now. i think it is because there are too many people with DSLR's and not enough photographers. i find myself in this place where i am still a noob, but no more about photography than the average shooter. idk, i just don't find the fun in photos anymore.

well you gotta keep challenging yourself.

I've just went through the first few pages of your flickr and all it is are cars.
no wonder you're bored of it, I would be to. I got sick of taking photos of cars 'cause how many times can you shoot the same angles etc. I've started doing portrait, food, wedding, product, nature, everything. all about variation.

I totally agree. I hate shooting cars now. I really want to do more with video actually. I also love food photography. I think I still may sell my gear and get either a 60D or a 7D so I have video. I also want to move towards primes and less zooms. I really need a shake up is what is sounds like.

Yeah don't give up, just shoot more diverse styles. Start a 365.

I agree. I've kind of become bored of it too. It was bothering me that my girlfriend's sister was getting paid for portrait shoots and maternity photos while I'm doing jack ish. And she knows next to nothing about photography or her camera. Shoots auto all day. But I look at like this: She obviously knows something that I don't. So I decided to look another direction with it.

Don't give up but instead shoot new things and look at new challenges that you've been wanting to. Instead of a 365 project (because it can be discouraging to have to keep up with it), follow something like dailyshoot.com. Btw... What camera do you have now? Maybe if you have a canon we can trade and it will be new and exciting for a week or so.

Yup dont give it up.. i sure you would miss it later. Like they said, go shoot on a different perspective
instead.. or take a short break then go back, we all need different stuff sometimes
