has anyone tried to chop the top of there OEM shifter? looking at some of the pics, it seems you could get the same effect by cuting off an inch or so.

it'd still have the long throws, just physically lower. frankly, i want the opposite. i DONT want it dropped, but i want shorter throws.

i placed an order for the TRD a day or so ago; should be here in a few more.

The fidanza short throw shifter is about 1 inch lower with 30% throw reduction. If you really want it to sit lower than an inch all you have to do is remove the 4 spacers that go at the base and you'll have another 3/4 inch drop in the height. Please add to first page thanks..

I installed the Megan short shifter over the weekend. It said it was 40% reduce in throw. The drop is about an inch. I really like it. I didn't lube up the shifter enough though and there is definately friction when shifting and hesitation to go back to the middle of neutral. But overall I'm very satisfied with it. It feel so much more natural. I'll snap a pic later tonight.

Default Shifter Slop

I have installed a TWM stage 2 ss. It works great but I have a habit of shifting really hard. Since I have installed the ____er I have noticed that when in gear I get ridiculous amounts of slop. It has even caused me to miss a few shifts. I took off my shift boot and found that the plastic housing that the shifter ball sits in is getting worn out. Does someone make a better quality replacement or anything? I know the TRD short shifter comes with it but is it better quality at all? I was kinda hoping to ditch the plastic and get something aluminum. Also I shift really fast and I have alot of problems that seem like my syncro from 1st to 2nd is bad or not fast enough or something. Cause I know I have the clutch in 100% but when I go to shift it grinds like crazy. Does anyone else have either or these problems or am I just f-ing crazy....? I would appreciate some help on any kind of info on this.

Ok... here pics of my Megan short shifter installed. The place I bought it from didn't say the exact amount it was shortened. But it is easily an inch shorter. 40% reduction in throw.

Exactly why i said "easily and inch" shorter. The reseller said that Megan told them it was only 1/2" drop which is obviosuly not true.

did u use any metal bushing on the base of the housing, if u got one ?

i wanted a lower one but i dint want to sacrifice comfort cos most of the time i drive kick back with my elbow resting on the console.

I got the TWM stage 2 also and love it. I noticed a few times also that when try to shift from 1st to second sometimes the gear grinds. But after about three times i got very ____ed and purposely tried to reenact what was goin on. And heres what it was for me. When i shift with the short shifter it goes into gear so fast that i wasn't pressing the clutch in fast enough and it felt like i was pulling the car out of gear(resistance in the shifter), and subconciously i started clutching early and releasing before the gear was in, thats when it would grind, and after you do that by accident it temporarily screws up your synchros and will cause the gears not to line up fast enough and start to grind more when shifting. So what i did was take it very easy for a couple days and shift very slowly from 1st to 2nd. And as i got more used to the speed of the shifter, and matching it with the clutch, it never happened again.

So if you are shifting fast like me, then something similar could be the case. But if you are shifting slow and still grinding, i would say its ur synchros.

Dude the thing is though I shift crazy fast. And it actually seems like I am shifting so fast that the synchros are not able to keep up with me... I dunno, Im not impressed with the way they made the actual shifter housing or the quality of the transmission itself....

Dont buy the Perrin for your tC, unless you have access to modifiing it.
I have the adjustable Perrin shifter. It sits way to high. The throw is shorter but the top of the **** sits way to high. They say it's the same for the xA,xB, and tC but I think it's only for the xB. Everything fits, but when i shift I bang my knuckles into the dash

I had my brother shorten the shifter at his shop and will pick it up from him later today. I will post pics and hope it works out

got my TRD in the mail today. took about an hour to instal cuz i spent half of that time digging out a screw i dropped into a hole in the body. man, its SO nice. everything is smooth and percise. the quick throws gear to gear are really noticeable. the best and most noticeable changes are the 2->3 and the 3->2 shifts; both of which used to be long and notchy, now are quick, short, and exact. instal was easy and instructions were simple to follow. im very happy with my purchase, and suggest it as the best most hastle-free option for short shifters. everything comes already put together, and it just pops in. i love it!

Geez, the TRD doesn't look like it shortens the height much at all.
